I'm currently using Virgin Mobile, but due the poor reception I've been getting with that, I've decided to give Tracfone a try since I've read they have the best coverage of any US prepaid provider.
As a college student, I spend a lot of time in both Houston, TX (77092) and Huntsville, TX (77340). So, I checked the coverage maps for both zip codes. For some reason they only showed a pretty much useless map of the entire United States (instead of something more zoomed in). However, I noticed something interesting: when I entered the Huntsville zip code, the US map showed broader national coverage than when I entered the Houston zip code. It seemed really odd.
As a result, when I placed an order on Amazon last night for an LG CG225 Tracfone and it asked for a zip code to check for availability, I put in the Huntsville zip code (again, 77340). Now I'm thinking that I may have made a mistake. Will the phone be assigned a Huntsville number, which would be a long distance number for Houston? I've never before ordered a phone online, used Tracfone, or used any GSM phone for that matter.
At this point, I still have time to cancel my order if needed.
