Xperia Recalled??

I have heard from 2 or 3 Sony Stores they had to ship back their phones because of a recall. A Google search will show a couple of other mentions on XDA.

Has anyone heard anything solid?

Thx much.

I called Friday to the Sony Style in Paramus NJ, the lady said they got them a few days before but they shipped back because "something was missing". She added that they would get them again on Monday or Tuesday.

Yep,
SonyStyle Palm Beach had all recalled as a precaution due to sowftare glitch. Will have stock again Dec 7 (maybe)...

Hopefully it's only for the X1a. I'm going to pick up an X1i this week.

I spoke to Sony Mobile Technical Support. The girl said they only thing she has heard is some phone had a crack near the stylus area and that could have been a reason for the partial recall. She "searched her system" and said no other issues have been raised.

At least they're acknowledging there's a problem this quickly. Most manufacturers will just tell you "wait for the next update".

long thread on the crack above the stylus area....

another forumboard has a long thread about new xperia users noticing a crack just above the stylus area on their phone....mostly happening to those with the silver color

I purchased the X1a on Tuesday November 25 just as the Sony Style store opened. I contacted them today and they told me that the rest of their stock was sent back but the manager was not given (or able to give) an answer why. I asked if I was supposed to return my phone but the manager suggested I call SE. (The manager was willing to take the phone back if I wanted). I called the Xperia support center and they were unaware of any recall or problem.

The firmware date on my unit is Sept 17 08 ver 1.02.948.8--some 60 days prior to the release. I've been using the phone for a week without problems, great sound, good keyboard. Don't know why they didn't include the Microsoft Voice Command as part of the ROM but I was able to install a copy and it works fine. So I'll stay tuned to see what the ROM date is on the next release.

BTW: The Xperia support line was FANTASTIC. No voice prompts, a real person picks up, answered my questions and for the esoteric questions he agreed to call me back with detailed answers. The person who answered the phone was the only person I needed to talk to (no switching departments, technical support vs. customer service etc.). It put every other customer service interaction I've had in the last 5 years to shame. I just hope the phone is as good as the service!

Anyone else with an X1a have a different ROM date (Settings/System/Device Information/Version).
