Man, they are really moving right along on this, April was when they were folded into AT&T. It sounds like they are just going to delete all the old Edge Wireless account info on that date, and I assume this means the old Edge MNC, 310-090 will cease to be by that date, being replaced by 310-410. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated :D

This has to be the same scare tatics they used on AT&T Wireless customers in order to bamboozle customers (especially the ones on GSM) into switching to the AT&T plans. AT&T isn't that stupid to suddenly pull the rug out from under former Edge Wireless GSM postpaid customers.

I was thinking the same thing, this seems a lot like those old scare tactics. I wonder if the FCC is keeping an eye on this, maybe they don't even care anymore :(

That's what it sounds like, this seems kinda dirty by AT&T, though not unexpected. They did one other nice thing recently too, going into the former Edge Wireless HQ in Bend, OR and telling the employees "sorry, we have no positions for you, bye", though the former Edge employees in the stores in Ukiah and Eureka seem to be pretty happy. These companies can really send some mixed messages sometimes :reallysad

They can't just 'dump' post paid customers (at least not without eating the ETF).
This would actually be considered a breach of contract by AT&T/Edge Wireless. They can not force you onto a new contract either for the same reason.
Prepaid is a whole other issue... little recourse there.

Do you think it's just a scare tactic then? It seems like it would be illegal to tell people that, when in reality it's not the truth at all. Edge had around 150,000 customers, and I would imagine out of those 95% were post paid.

Edit-If they are lying just to scare people into migrating, I am going to send a letter off to the CA PUC as well as the FCC.

Ok I'm not really a phone person so help me understand please.

My phone was Cingular branded when I got it 5 years ago but of course says AT&T on the screen now and I have Media Net using EDGE network. How and does this new deal effect me? Is my phone and plan(we've renewed of course within the past couple years) now considered full ATT and I won't have any surprises? Are you all saying that EDGE will die and they will only be using 3G network and a phone that doesn't have 3G will not get net service? Or is Media Net it's own service that has just been accessing EDGE?

On a side note, which phone sellers online allow you to renew the contract on a single line on your family plan and let you upgrade and get the discounted phone price they advertise?

No, we're talking about the carrier, Edge Wireless, not EDGE the technology. Edge Wireless was an AT&T Affiliate that served here in NorCal, Southern Oregon, Southeastern Idaho and the Jackson, WY areas, they were bought out late in 2007, and were merged into AT&T Wireless in April of this year. EDGE the technology isn't going anywhere :)

AFAIK, unless at&t Mobility decides to deny roaming to SIM cards with EDGE Wireless IMSIs numbers (the unique name for each and every SIM chip), EDGE Wireless subscribers should not experience any service interruptions.

While EDGE Wireless is part of at&t Mobility, EDGE subscribers have IMSI numbers which start out 310090XXXXXXXXX and it is the 090 that identifies that SIM as belonging to EDGE Wireless. When a SIM identifies itself on a foreign network (i.e. any network that does not share the first six numbers), it is the 2nd three numbers which identify the home network. at&t Mobility could decided to deny "access" (read - roaming) to 310090 IMSIs and render all EDGE accounts useless without migrating over to at&t Mobility 310410.

This has not been a route that at&t Mobility has taken to date, but that DOES NOT mean they are not going to take this route moving forward.

I would direct your letter of concern to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) since this is their speciality, especially when it comes to the wording of advertisments, instead of the FCC. The latter only deals with the licensing and use of airwaves/commnications services/radio spectrum inside the U.S.

It seems your complaint is about the wording/print on the website/mailers, not about the misuse of radio spectrum.

Something smells here! Att had to agree to let those users keep their plans and perks in order to get the deal done.

ilvla2, don't you remember, I believe you posted in the thread that was on hofo when it all happened?
