Roaming Issue. How to add SID/NID pair to your home list?

I am using a Verizon Touch pro VX6850 on Page plus, registered in AZ but using it in NE. So my phone keep showing this roaming triangle even though no roaming charges.

Somehow on some phones (mostly EV-DO phones) the roaming triangle pops out whenever you are out of your home area. In such a case, the phone is still on Verizon’s network and you won’t be charged at roaming rate. From the following link, you can find the SID(s) for the area where you use your phone and add them to the SID/NID pair list in your phone. Then, the phone won’t show the roaming triangle in these areas except that you are really roaming (on the Extended Network). Or try dial *22888 that worked for some users.

But, how exactly do you access the SID/NID list in your phone? i couldn't find any info online. would somebody please help me out here?

If your device was activated with an AZ number and programmed with an AZ SID/NID, then quite possibly being in Nebraska might cause a roaming indicator to appear, however, it should not cause any problem (as you indicated no roaming charges have appeared.)

Each device has different programming methods on how to access the NAM settings in order to change/update your SID/NID, however, normally you should never have to change these manually. Performing *22891 should update your Preferred Roaming List and keep things in order.

If you still want to modify your SID/NID just to get rid of the roaming triangle, do a search here on HoFo for your device and likely you will find NAM programming instructions that will instruct you out to update your SID.

actually, I bought the phone (touch pro vx6850) from Craigslist, which was with Verizon. I ported my AZ number when activating it with Page Plus in NE.

I have seen a lot of post in Page Plus forum, saying you can solve problem by *22891, *22888........, but all these number are for Verizon. they could never recognize my number, always said "programming unsuccessful". one time i was directed to a Verizon representive and i was told i have to call page plus. I think that makes sense, cause i am now with page plus now. but if Page Plus has these numbers for programming, why everybody is posting verizon numbers? don't they have their owns? I know they use verizon's towers. I am so confused.

I just performed the *22891, the same result, "we can not recognized your number..." i have no idea what to do.

Hi there, you are very welcome. Ok, so you purchased a Verizon device from Craigslist and you ported your Arizona number into PPC and you want to use the device.

So you really don't know if it has a Verizon PRL in it or not then right? You will likely have to manually program your phone in order to enter your MDN (Mobile Directory Number), MIN (Mobile Identification Number), SID (System ID) and NID (Network ID) before being able to connect to a Verizon tower and perform the Over-the-Air programming.

It is even possible that you might have to connect your device to a data cable and a piece of software in order to download a Verizon PRL onto the device first before it will recognize any Verizon towers.

I'm just not sure exactly what you are working with their for a status on your device - without knowing if it has a Verizon PRL or not, and without you knowing how to technical modify your phone, getting it to work on PagePlus may be difficult at best.

You may want to pickup a PagePlus phone off their website and put your phone number on a new device that is pre-programmed to work with PagePlus.

Dial *228 and press Talk

Tell me exactly what you hear...

try dialing ##778# or ##778 Talk or #*#778 Talk or #*#778#

one of those should get you to the main programming of the phone. on the bottom left if you click it should pull up a list and there should be a SID/NID option, that is where you set the SIDs and NIDs.

Do not change anything in the programming area of the phone if you have no idea what you are doing!

thanks a lot. somehow it works!

I dialed *228 and was connected to verizon, picked option 2 to upgrade PRL. this time, it went through and the roaming triangle disappeared. and there is "verizon wireless" showing on my phone, which was not there before.

but before i did that, I flashed my phone to a custom rom. i am not sure if that changed something and make it to work.

I am still not sure what went wrong before. I bought the phone. it was with verizon. it was hard reset before it was handed to me. I submitted porting request to page plus, called them, then *2288 to get programmed, then it worked but with the roaming triangle.

anyway. i am happy now. thanks a lot, guys. you guys are great
