Opinions for Color Display phones? (Samsung, nokia, sony, motorola) Which is best?

Hi fellas.

Well, its time to spend a little money and upgrade my cell phones... We have 3 accounts with Voicestream/Tmobile here in the USA (Texas, actually :) ) My wife, My son and myself. Currently I'm using a Ericson T28W, My wife is using a MetalMoto (Motorola V66g) and my Son is using a Nokia 8290. All locked to voicestream :(

Anyway, we all want color display phones now, and with the holidays around the corner, its time to start shopping and researching. I'm going to cross post this to the other forums aswell to try and get some accurate information.

Now, back in September I bought a TCC Q285, we kept it for a few weeks and got rid of it, it was an ok phone, but unless you can speak chinese (or which ever language the software was in), you're screwed... Its really hard to figure out how to use the cool features of the phone, and converting ringtones/midi's into 4chan <2.9k .mmf files was a joke. Most times it never worked right (converting the ringtones)... So we're NOT interested in the TCC Q285

SO: We are looking at a couple of the newest color display phones out there... The SONY T300 (which my wife likes because of the camera), The SAMSUNG S105 (Which I think I like the most mainly because of the cosmetics {ie: the blue backlights in the keypad}), the MOTOROLA T720 and the Nokia 7210.

I only know the basics about each phone- and would really like you guys (the resident pro's) to give us some pro's, con's and details about each of the phones...Who better to hear it from than the experts right? Either from people who have them, used them or know alot about them :) {in case I forget, thanks for taking the time to read this whole thing}

These questions pretty much apply to all the phones listed, or any color display phones.

A) Do these phone do picture caller ID? (when a certain # calls, it displays the picture you set for that #)

B) How many pictures can it hold, wallpapers, caller id pics, etc..

C) Which of these phones do the JAVA programmable/downloadable (I seem to remember reading some phones were going to have pre-set java apps/games installed, while some you could upload new java apps/games into the phone)

D) How hard is it to upload Graphics, JAVA or POLYPHONIC ringtones into each phone?

E) What is the general opinion of these phone?

and of course: WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BUY?

I really appreciate your opinions.

THANKS

the T300 is a nice phone with the camera but the RF signal isn't anything. The S105 is an Awesome phone the others I don't have so I can't help.

I know for a fact that the screen in the Nokia 7210 is made by Samsung SDI.

Sorry cant help you on your questions. I dont have any of those.

So you didn't like the T300, because of the lack of RF performance? hmm. not good. My Ericsson T28W has pretty bad reception too, especially around my house, I get 1 bar usually. My wife who has the Motorola V60 almost always has full strength (or 80%). The RF on that Motorola V60 is excellent (from what I've seen)

(Sounds like a strike against the T300, pity- its the best value, and the one my wife likes)

well the s105 is free here, that is if you not in a contract. T68i is like $50. t300 is free, just out of stock, but tmobile has it for $100.

please ignore if you already know this.

I owned a S100 and I liked it. It's a good phone with 65K color and the others only have 4K color.
I would recommend it.

how about a Panasonic GD87?

65k TFT LCD screen
built in camera
tri-band

the T300 is probably the best bang for the buck....the reception on the T300 is much better than the t28w....but not as good as an s105.......overall the t300 is an above average performer...

t300 has all the stuff ur looking for....downloadable java games/polyphonic ringtones/picture ID/picture messaging....and has good connectivity via IR or data cable.

if u can afford the s105 then go with that.....
7210 isnt' even worth the money so don't bother getting it.
t720 is one of the most poorly designed phones ever...

suprisingly, the screen on the T300 is remarkable eventhough it's the same resolution and same amount of colours as the T68i....

style-wise, all of the other phones look better than the T300....but the T300 has a nice solid feel......

Well... I have to be honest. When I posted these messages (I posted the same message in each of the 4 forums, motorola, samsung, sony and nokia). I really expected that forum to say that phone was the best (ie: sony forum guys say get the sony t300, samsung forum guys say get the s105, etc).

So far, everyone says get the Sony T300 :) Wow...

As I've stated- My wife really wants that phone, they are on ebay without a Camera for $160, and $210 with a camera (+ $15 shipping), but I'll probably buy one from Lvwireless just because everyone here has had such good luck and service buying from him. I think I saw the price as $212 with camera + shipping? I'll have to check.

I personally wanted the Samsung or the Motorola. I've kinda been waiting for the samsung, very disapointed to hear it doesnt do the picture caller id :(

I considered the T68i, but its higher than the T300 and no polyphonic ringtones... I don't see myself paying $150+ for a bluetooth headset, so the BT doesn't tickle me.
