Getting the numner I want

I'd like to have a particular number - I travel a lot between the US and UK, and I want to have a US number which is similar to my UK one. I'm happy with a 773 area code (I'm in Chicago) but want to choose the next seven digits. Can I do this?

I wasn't allowed to choose mine. I think they randomly generate one for you.

You cannot just choose the next 7 digits randomly... if that's what you're trying to do. They'll give you a prefix and then you can put a vanity request for the last 4 numbers... there is a charge for that (25 bucks) but most reps let that slide. Give it a shot.

i nevr got charged :) i have an x000 vanity at the end, and a **** good prefix ^_^

I got to choose the last 4 digits for mine (but that was 4 years ago) and since we activated a few numbers on individual plans, we all got the same prefix.

The prefix is usually determined by what city you select (the cities are listed in "change location" at top left of T-mobile website). For example if I choose Nanuet I know I will get 845-536-xxxx.

have you any idea where 773 920 xxxx is? 773 is Chicago.
What's the URL for the page I can't find it on the T-Mobile site

http://www.t-mobile.com/locator.asp This page only shows the locations that T-mobile has local prefixes, not what the prefixes are. To find out T-mobile prefixes you need to ask other T-mobile subscribers their number and then trace the prefixes back to their cities. And watch out for people who ported their numbers to T-mobile because their number orginally came from somewhere else.

Which gives me another idea. Find out who is assigned that prefix and go to that company. Then port the number over to T-mobile. For example if SBC is giving out that prefix to local customers then you set up line with them and then port the number to T-mobile.

This is a quick look at what numbers t-mobile has in the 773 area code. There may be more as this list isn't updated often.

Thanks, that's great.

I would caution on choosing the last 4 digits. Amp'd decided to give me an easy to remember number as a courtesy, so my last 4 digits are 1100. Turns out that I am receiving calls to wrong numbers quite often because the other digits are similar to those of businesses.

My natural rudeness is disincentivizing call-backs, but if these persist, I will need to pay to get it changed. :bash:
