Re: Phone calls on T-Mobile's $30 5GB 100 minutes plan.
I use about 300 min a month with voip. My setup is Piaf on aws ec2. Google it.
It's not an app so you need to set up manually. But it gives the best quality.

Agreed. VoIP over 3g is very YMMV. If your coverage is crappy, forget about it. Fortunately, I get great reception in my city so VoIP is a possibility. I have tried all known methods except for...

You can't make Vonage as default outgoing phone app.
If you don't know what this means, try calling a restaurant from Maps.
Getting great quality on incoming calls was the trickiest part. With callcentric routing, the incoming calls are as good as outgoing calls.
It has been rock solid since I found the right setup 2+...
Since you asked, here's my setup

Re: T-Mobile prepaid plan and Vonage app for Android
Vonage is OK for most ppl.
I don't use it because
1. I can't receive calls
2. Poor android integration.

The call quality is great using iLBC codec over 3g. I rarely use minutes. Great plan for who knows how to use VoIP resources.

All my calls are 100% VoIP even over 3g. I found using the right codec is key in slow connection. I'm relying on iLBC codec.

I don't understand 350 hour standby thing. That is just so misleading. I have owned many Android phones and none of them lasted 2 days. I have to recharge daily with these phones. So as long as they...

Thanks for sharing.
I just went ahead and ordered Epic through telesales.
My wait just got a little longer after I learned about Samsung Transform. It fits my bill.
It's moving but very slowly. The GSM version of TP2 got GPS working 2 weeks ago. No words on CDMA (Sprint) version. As of now, TP2 port needs to improve on
1. GPS
2. Camera
3. Battery life

My wife now hates WM 6.5.
So I did some research and found wifi tethering is now working on Android ported Touch Diamond. She can live without GPS. I hope she likes her new Android Diamond.

Now with the $10 extra cost, EVO costs as much as Iphone for 4 people before any discounts.
EVO = (130 + 20*2 + 10*4) = $210
Iphone = (70 + 10*2 + 30*4) = $210
Of course the 2 plans are not...
I'm in the same shoe as OP.
Are you sure about the Best Buy route? I remember someone saying that one needs to keep the phone activated for certain amount of period, if you get it from Best Buy. ...
For those who are considering porting android on HTC touch, try incubus's Super Eclair Lite 2.1 from XDA. It's not 100% functional (w/ camera and BT audio issues) but I prefer it to Myn's Warm Donut...
I love Sprint b/c of SERO. You are out of contract. Why don't you leave?
