I admit, the black color scheme gave a a new lease in life for these phones. It actually made them look good.
But do you think this would work wonders in the N series?
We'll have the following phones in the future:
1. Nokia N70 (music edition)
2. N91 (music edition)
3. N73 (music edition)
Nokia is just too shy to admit it but they're just following the trend they set in the 6600 and the 6680. The phrase "music edition" is nothing more than an extra marketing push.
Don't you think the black housing is removing the metallic classy look of any n-series phone?
For example, there's already a black N70. It's called N72 (LOL), and it's currently the laughingstock of the n-series.
I think Nokia should be more realistic and do something like this: Make a later release and replace the housing with a real metal, so that we won't get jealous anymore at the 8800 owners. LOL! 8800 is a phone we all envy but we won't buy anyway, even if we have the money. Nokia could be thinking that the 8850/8890 crowd is still alive.
However, a metallic series 60 would be really cool.

Agree 100% with you!! Nokia is just changing the face plates & adding some accessories thats all to make them music editions. However for N91 they are adding 4 GB more HDD to it which is really nice.
The 6600 wasn't necessarily white. It was more of a silver black than white. I wouldn't describe it as white. I don't think the black version caught on very well because it was released after the technology was already getting old.
The white 6680 and 6681 are hot phones. I skipped that line and went right for the N70, but it was between that and a white 6681. Gorgeous looking phone. I don't see a lot of people raving about their black version of this phone either.
There are only a couple of subtle differences in the new music lineup, the biggest, and not so subtle being the 4GB increase in the N91. The others aren't just black, they come with larger memory cards and have a Music key instead of a Media key.
Why would Nokia be "shy to admit" that black is sexy? I don't think they need a press conference to announce that black is a nice color for phones. I really don't think people will buy a Music Edition phone simply because it's black anyway. Being in the s60 world, I think most of us prefer function to fashion, which the new Music Edition phones bring both of. They're simply a nicer set of phones with more stuff not included in the non-Music versions.
I'm going to buy the N95, and that's that. I don't think I'd want it though if it was black, though I'm not buying the ugly gold version.
I can afford an 880x, but I refuse to buy it. I don't want it, it doesn't do half of what my phone does and I think the 8800 series is ugly.
I don't mean to nay-say your thread, but I don't understand your point? Are you criticizing Nokia and their decision or what?
Does anybody have a pic of the black 6680 edition..I would love to see that. I wasn't aware they had that..I thought they only made those n-series phones black.

I think you're somewhat wrong on some of your points. Take me for example..I mainly use my phone for texting and calling and for mp3 ringtones and I consider the look of the phone very important. I would never ever buy the N70 because I just don't like the color and the whole metal thing..same thing for the N73. But I'm telling you when I saw the N70 in black I flipped..it made me wanna get it and I seriously cannot wait until it comes out because it looks so hot and so much better IMO in black. Just the change in color makes me wanna buy it regardless of the price!

I suppose it is if people like Danny are going to buy it on the color alone. Hopefully, these phones won't flop like the N72 and the black variants of the 6600 and 6680.
that just looks like an aftermarket black faceplate
i didnt know they released an official black version of the 6680 and 6600 lol... i actually got an all black housing for my 6600 way back when i had it too
I really, REALLY, hate to bring this point up, but it's a proven fact that color sells. Reference that nasty-of-nasty four letter word (RAZR, for those wondering). That phone came out in what, 04? 05? And it still sells like hotcakes, because since then they've released black, blue, pink (three shades of pink), red, etc. And I've actually had people with the original silver buy a black one outright just for the color. Same for the pink.

I think they did release an actual black version of the 6600, but i'm pretty sure you are right about the 6680.

Abso-freakin-lutely color sells! Guys, step outside the geek dome for a minute, do you think your wives/girlfriends/internet dates are buying Doone & Burke purses based solely on the name? No, they are buying them based on how they will go with that black dress and the manolo blahnik's that they've been eyeing. Features are of the utmost important to me, but a close second is style... why do you think I bought the black n80 over the silver?
