You're welcome... I don't know what "MOBILE WEB MANUALPR" means exactly, but if it means you have mobile web on your account, then that will only allow you to access the web from your mobile phone. It will not allow you to tether. So, yes, this method will still apply to you when you need to tether occasionally.

OK, I must be missing something here. I have done the NVM_FACTORY hack on my V3M. Whenever I try to tether, either by USB or BT, it seems to connect, but within 30 seconds it disconnects. The phone will say PACKET DATA during that time, and the data connection indicator will appear on the top red bar, but then it all goes away within 30 seconds. Windows will then say that the dialup link failed, and offers to reconnect.

I have web browsing enabled, and I'm in an EVDO area; I can use the nav program, for instance. I am not subscribed to VCAST; don't really have a need to. What am I missing?

Yes, "MOBILE WEB MANUALPR" is a 5.00 fee so I can browse the web with my phone. So, if I cancel this I will still be able to use the phone as a modem?

    Thanks for all the help.

Does this mean you are subscribed to mobile web?

I don't know. I guess if you're using your own gateway, it might work, and use air-time only...?

DUN and Mobile Web are entirely separate things, having only the fact that they both use the packet data features of the phone in common.

The only thing that subscribing to Mobile Web does is give you access to VZW's WAP proxy.
Any data connection will still use your plan minutes, including Mobile Web, DUN, sending pix/flix etc. whether you run your own proxy or not. You are paying for connection time on the data network no matter what but if you subscribe to Vcast then you get unlimited data airtime for all uses that does NOT use plan minutes.

So, no, you do not need to subscribe to Mobile Web to use DUN.

And the most important thing to remember is that ANY use of DUN tethering without a data plan from VZW is against the TOS and is strictly at your own risk!

#777 DUN does not use your own gateway.
The wap settings (proxy IP, port, homepage, username, pass, etc) have absolutely no affect on #777 DUN.

    Thanks,

I've recently purchased a K1M and did the edit as described in this thread. It works flawlessly via USB. I tried DUN with my BT connection, and it does not show up as one of the BT services for the phone, nor does the Serial Port Profile. Has anyone had any problem with this? Maybe my BT dongle is not operating properly? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Seems I've found the problem. When you turn the BT security off to never ask when it's ok to connect to another BT device, that is when the trouble begins with BT DUN. Still no luck with the Serial Port Profile.

Is it possible to use qnc rather than EVDO for DUN on the KRZR? All I want to do is access my email sometimes when out of wifi coverage. How could I do this?

Great How-To! Thanks a ton for the information, now I finally have my K1m to the same point that my beloved E815 was before I upgraded (minus a flash for the camera). This was really easy to do, with the exception of finding QPST Build 215. The screen shots were a big help.
