If you purchase the phone under no contract agreement you can exchange or get a refund provided its not damaged in anyway! Try out the pantech!
I think it's a solid phone for those who want all the convenience of a PDA but don't want to have to carry around a bulkier device.
If you have questions just pm me
I am on contract with Telus. I have been looking closely at the Pantech lately. Most people I speak with say wait for a few months because Telus has so many problems with data devises. I want to get one within the next week and would like to try the Pantech. The Q has had so much bad press about screen freezes and battery live (Comes with a bigger battery now). Still stuck between them both and very anxious about buying one. I'm glad there is a policy of returning them if you are not satisfied. What would you buy?

The PN-820 is by Pantech and branded as the "VerizonWirelss PN-820". Here's the Windows Mobile link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...zon%2bWireless

there seems to be too many comments saying this device is not for them... i am sure that the makers of all phones out there aren't trying to please everyone!

the PN-820 is going to be perfect for me, and other professionals that need their Pocket PC during the week to check email and respond easily, edit office documents, and everything else that the Pocket PCs can do... but on the weekends...... this flip version smartphone will be the perfect "weekender" for me as i will need access to everything, just not need the capabilities that i need during the week. and with wireless sync, everytime i swap, the device updates to the latest! this is going to be as close to the perfect wireless choice for me... until the next one comes out that is...
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is!

The big diff with this and any of the other smartphone handsets is the memory. It has 128 Ram and 64 ROM. This makes it much more stable and has a better user experiance. It is perfect for those that are heavey on voice, but still really like having the PIM and email info, with it working on EAS this opens the doors to many that are in Microsoft shops. I will be using it with callender, and email only, though I will still use the GAL feture. I am hoping that Verizon will make a WM6 standard upgrade available.

Not really a big deal. It's branded as a "VerizonWireless" PN-820 but uses the same numbering system as the more basic PN-210 and PN-215 also branded as "Verizon Wireless" and also by Pantech, not HTC or UTStarcom.

It doesn't have a touchscreen, doesn't have a stylus. I got mine in the mail yesterday and haven't decided if I am going to keep it or not. Still doing research to see if it will interface with my mac.

Sad that it doesn't have a stylus.

Don't mean to sound snide, but didn't you understand that it lacked a touchscreen before buying it? It is a Smartphone, not a Pocket PC. Smartphones don't have touchscreens and, therefore, don't use a stylus.

As for interfacing with your Mac, please be more specific. Tethering with the Mac and the 820 works fine, both over bluetooth and with USB. As far as syncing data, you have two options (just as you would with any WM device -- PPC or Smartphone). You can sync both your 820 and your Mac with an exchange server, the latter using Entrourage. Or you can purchase Missing Sync and sync the 820 directly to the Mac.

You might want to take a look at the 820-specific forum here (in the Verizon/PDA forum) or the 820 wiki for more information. Thus far, the user reviews of the Pantech smartphone have been uniformally positive, especially from former users of "higher end" full PPC devices.

Yeah, I was aware that it wouldn't have a stylus. Just venting... I was hoping though that it would have more options for typing. I dislike the guessing system that it has, the same as the razr, I'd prefer the old school T9 like what was on the most basic phones like the LG-VX3200. I really wish that another clam shell/flip phone more like the Kyocera 7135 would come out...Just more reliable. The reliability that I think I will find with the PN-820.

There might actually be a way to download the typing style I prefer, but still haven't really had time to look into what the phone will do. I appreciate the info on the modem use though. thanks

Anyone know what the phone functionality is like yet? I'm mainly interested in reception and speaker quality. I've had a Motorola E815, which I feel is perhaps one of the best clamshells out there, and I've been using a Q for a couple months. Both offer (in my opinion) good quality speakers, with the E815 on the better side.

I'm planning on selling the Q on eBay; it's a silver Q that I got a black housing for, with a TON of extras, but it's just a little too bulky for me. I prefer the clamshell designs, and was going to just go back to the E815, but I really like having the Outlook contacts on a smartphone. I'm considering the PN-820, as it seems to marry the best of the E815 and the Q, but I'd love some other opinions.

just got my 820 on Tuesday, and so far i can say the reception and voice quality is excellent, on both ends to. The built in speaker for music and speaker phone is okay, but it seems to bottom out/ become slightly scratchy on the lower frequencies, but that can be fixed with an equalizer. Once i find one i'll report back on how it sounds

Got mine today. I retired a Audiovox 6600/6601 earlier this week for the vx9900 enV. I wanted to get away from the PDA with dataplan and cost, thought I could deal with just text messaging. Didn't happen. I needed full blown email and wirelesssync with mobileweb cost as much as a dataplan did. While the enV was a cool phone and the nicest qwerty keyboard I've played with I found it was more tuned for the music lovers. The other problem I found was I like to tweak my phone and UI out, with the enV the shortcuts were hard coded to some extent. I could change the navigation rings but the shortcuts on the keyboard were off limits. When I hit the internet I want the internet, not verizon wanting to sell me another subscription to something.

The PN820 is nice, I haven't had any marathon calls today so I'll reserve comment on the sound quality just now but so far it's been great. I went ahead and got the minisd card for storage, the sales girl was wheelin and dealin. The OS has been stable with me bangin at it pretty hard this afternoon. I've never had a phone so small and light, its a real shock coming out of that brick that was the Harrier.

Did I understand someone to say that Word and Excel is suppose to be on here? If so, let me know where.

No Word or Excel on WM5 for SP. Will be there is and when VZ updates the OS to WM6. For now, you can purchase Documents to Go for SP.
