Set Display Timeout to any value less than 30 seconds (saves battery life and also locks the JOGGR - great for preventing accidental volume bumps during calls):

    HKCU\ControlPanel\Power\Display

Change the value to anything you want. I have mine set to 20 seconds.

You can also drop the Backlight Timeout:

    HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\BatteryTimeout

After some mild usage of WiFi (say 5-10 minutes) the back of my dash starts getting warm. It hasn't gotten hot enough that its uncomfortable to hold, but it noticably heats up. I just wanted to check that this was normal. Is that what everyone else's Dash is like?

I use my Dash on WiFi for 1+ hours at a time. Just gets warm but not hot. Did you have it plugged into power? That will cause it to heat up.

Great thread here with lots of useful info.!

Just switched over from Sprint to T-Mobile, pretty much to capitalize my monthly payments and using an internet ready smartphone. (Had a Samsung AA920 - not too great for the expensive internet package that I was paying for.)

So far, with the Dash, the basics are.... acceptable? Minor complaints include not being able to easilly navigate through my fantasy football team (yahoo), and being charged per message when using the pre-installed AIM service. (Grrrr....)

Needless to say I'm awaiting better browser software, and am currently searching for an AIM application that I can install so that I don't use up my MMS per AIM chat.

Can anyone point me in a general direction concerning an AIM application and/or better web browsing? Thanks!

Agile Messenger is a very nice program that doesn't use up your SMS bucket, but I do believe you need the 29.99 data plan (5.99 T-mobile Web doesn't work). Agile Messenger allows you to connect to MSN, Yahoo, AOL, and ICQ I believe.

You also might try the Opera Mini browser. Quite superior to PIE IMHO.

Can you get on the internet with the Dash by having the T-Zone settings? For example, the same settings as an SDA.

Not sure if anyone else had this problem, but I had to change my network option to "The Internet" so that I could use wifi without having to make changes each and every time I wanted to use it.

Not sure why it made a difference but it works now with that change.

For AIM over the 5.99 plan, get Agile Messenger for Smartphone 2002. It wasn't designed for the Dash, so it displays a little bit funky, but it works perfectly and you'll get used to the way it looks.

I think you're right...do you have your email set to "The Internet" too?

When I first set this up IE wasn't working with "The Internet" setting, but when I changed it to "WAP Network" it started working fine, but I just tested IE with "The Internet" and it works fine now. Can anyone else confirm that "The Internet" setting works over EDGE and WiFi?

I can't test it at the moment because for some reason I'm unable to connect to my home WiFi. The signal is showing 1 bar, and it keeps saying "Connected" then it disconnects and tries to connect to another nearby AP. :-/ It never grabs an IP address.

You don't need an app to turn off xT9. Just push "alt" and then "SPACE."

Ok I think I got connected to a neighbor's AP, the problem is Messaging has to be on "The Internet" when connected to WiFi, and changed back to "WAP Network" when using EDGE.

It's just strange cause "The Internet" wasn't working over EDGE before with IE.

Since I am using Exchange at this point I do not see a "The Internet" setting in my list of options, so I am assuming it is using my EGPRS settings which are set at the "Wap Network"

But again I am positive after making this change I have had no problems and can use EDGE and WiFi without making any changes. Also with WiFi connected all programs that I use that access the internet go directly to using wifi and not EDGE. I believe I saw one person saying that they did not.

Thank you for your help on this.

I have a question: Is T-Zones free? If not how much is it per month? Also t-Mobile's web site touts it as its platform to download stuff (quote from theire web site: What does it cost to access t-zones?
Nothing! Browsing t-zones and even listening to samples is free. When you choose a feature or service to add to your phone, the feature description will explain how its use will be charged to your account. You will see any per-use fees before you make a purchase.) so if used to access the internet and be on all the time, won't I incure data charges once T-Mobile realizes I am using t-Zones as a gateway to the web?

    Sweet spot,

Agile sp 2000 only works for me for Yahoo IM. I could never get it to work on MSN with my $5.99 Tmobileweb. Have you tried MSN on your Dash with $5.99? If so have you added another proxy other than the one that has been displayed on Dash FAQ 1.0 thread?

    Thanks,
