HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9 i believe controls the xt9 software. I cannot find the correct key to change the default input but I am sure it is something here. Can one you guys please check this out and see if you can make anything of it. xt9 needs to NOT be the default program on a device with a keyboard!

Also, the phone froze again today when it wasn't doing anything but sitting there. Its obviously defective and I'm taking it back.
Dude, you're just not lucky, I used my wifi for 3 hours straight, used my Bluetooth at the same time and I talked on the phone, checked my email through push mail and I watched a music video and didn't experience any problem. I know I feel sorry for you…

Well I picked up a new Dash today.

The guy at the store wasn't even surprised that I returned it. He said they had already gotten 5 back this morning because of some of the same issues.

However, the new one is MUCH better than the first one. The battery life is definitely much better than it was on the first, not to mention the fact that it hasn't freezed once. Even things that used to make my first one freeze (like running Opera 8, IE, and Agile at the same time) don't make it freeze.

    I'm loving it.

But I'm still thinking about getting a PPC-6700. I like the full keyboard idea much better but the stylus idea bugs me as I know I'd lose them constantly.

I played around a little bit and found that changing "DefaultInputModule" value to anything 2 or above turns off XT9, but it turns on numlock (pressing alt doesn't turn it off). Setting it to 0 turns off keyboard input. I can't tell what the "TextInputMode" value controls.

So I think we're looking in the right place.

I found some interesting reg entries

    HKLM\software\htc\startup\
contains the startup sound and gif

    HKLM\software\htc\shutdown\
contains the shutdown sound and gif

    HKLM\software\htc\keypad\
    contains the keyboard light timeout
    Enjoy!

I played with HKLM\software\htc\keypad\ a few days ago and it doesn't seem to have an effect, the keyboard light always went out after 30 seconds of non-use.

VITO Copy/Paste does not work at this time as the Dash is locked. At least mine is. He is working on a version for locked SmartPhones. Just tried his latest attempt but it still needs work.

    Alarm Issues?

I wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this phenomenon...

I use my phone as a secondary alarm, so I went to Settings, Clock & Alarm, Alarm, and set a time for my alarm (6:35am) and set Alarm to On.

This was fine during the week as I wake up at the same time. On Saturday I changed it to 10:35am, and it was fine then....

But now, I get phantom alarms that go off for no reason. It went off Sunday morning at 4:30am, then again at 9:35am. Then this morning it went off at 5:30am and then correctly at 6:35am, but then again at 9:35am...

It's getting a bit irritating... any ideas?? I even disabled the alarm Sunday and it still went off again...

glad to see some people are having the same problems that I had with my dash, though I'm not sure if thats good or bad

anyway, I picked up 2 of them the morning of its release( one for me, one for my girlfriend) and wouldnt you know I had to return mine by friday? damn thing kept freezing and going blank on me. I got tired of pulling the battery and brought it in and got a new one and the lady let me keep all the accessories from the new box (got an extra case, charger, and battery ) this one is working great.

I'm getting phantom alarms too...haven't had a chance to really study what times their going off though cause it's usually too early to think. I remember this morning I had one go off at 5:00a (I think I had an alarm set for 6:00a before the time change), then I had like 3 go off at 6:30a, and 2 go off at 7:00a.

Hey, at least the alarms go off now, on Pocket PC they rarely went off when they needed to. I'm hoping someone will write an alarm replacement that allows multiple alarms, I can't believe how dumbed down Microsoft has made Smartphone.

Does it makes sense for the people out there with a problematic phone to post software version information, or possibly something similar from a hardware perspective? It would be nice to know if there is something the rest of us should be looking at before we buy.

    Thanks,
    Anne

Same here, but after spending a day or two on these forums you'll be about 100x more knowledgeable about Smartphone.
