    Directory Assistance 411

I have one quick question -- on Tracfones operated on the Cingular network, is 411 based on whatever tower you hit?

I used 411 yesterday in the Ludington, MI area and the identifier said "Cellular One", which is definitely not the Tracfone supplier for my phone from what I see on this and other forums. I'll note that I was roaming at the time with a GSM phone.

I've never called 411 while roaming but I would guess that the carrier that you are roaming on will answer 411 calls.

You might want to give 1-800-FREE411 (1-800-373-3411) a shot.

Works good, but you have to listen to several ads. That is OK because it is FREE !!!

    411

It's been my experience that 411 is provided by the underlying carrier that carries your TracFone number, if it is available on the tower you're nearest, and whatever roaming partner they have if the base carrier is not available.

Since TradFone doesn't charge any additional units to use 411, there is no advantage to using 800-FREE-411, although I do use it on my Cingular post-paid phone.

I mainly use it on my U S Cellular postpay because FREE ia a lot cheaper than the $1.50 or whatever it is that USCC charges...
