    KX5 BUttons shorted? Dont work!Help!

I've had my phone for a little over 3 months and just recently I've been having a problem. My right button, down button, talk button, and back button DO NOT WORK. I have no idea what might have cause this, since they just stopped working like 3 days ago. The only thing that makes them work is when I slide the phone almost close so that the light on the keypad turns off. Then and only then can I press those buttons and they work(which is useless since its halfway closed). Is there anything that can fix this? SOmeone HElP!

The only time I have seen that many things go wrong with a phone at once is when the phone is liquid damaged. If you did not damage the phone in any way, you have a one year manufacturers warranty from the date of purchase provided by Kyocera that will fix it at no cost to you. As far as the $85, that is a deductible. Whenever you file a claim on auto, home, phone insurance, there is always a deductible. The actual retail cost of your handset is $400, so $85 really isn't that bad.

Try calling your service provider first to see what options they give you. They may be able to help you out.

Most brand new phones come with a 1 year warranty no matter who your carrier is. Alltel just chooses to exchange the phone in store or by mail instead of sending the phone in for repair and providing a loaner phone. However, most times when this is done, it is not a brand new phone but a refurbished phone.

yeah it'll have a one year mfg warranty. as long as there's no damage to the phone and you've had it less than a year you can do it that way, but cricket's gonna charge you $10 to ship the phone back. otherwise use the insurance. i don't think there's any kx5 left so make them give you a nokia 6265i. it's much better anyways

My buttons sometimes work, sometimes they do not (back and the call button). I had the problem starting last week. I bought the phone back in feb 2006.

When I power cycle, the buttons work usually again. But not sure if that is just a coincidence.

I plan on going to alltel after a week or so to talk about an exchange.

I did email kyocera and they told me:

"In the unlikely event that the phone locks up and key presses don't work, you may need to reset the phone. Try removing the battery and re-installing it. This will hopefully reset the phone and allow normal operation. (It is normally not recommended to remove the battery to power down the phone, but if the keypad does not respond this would then be acceptable)"
