I just got off the phone with about the 10th Rogers rep today trying to understand why I can't connect to email.
The latest explanation from Rogers indicates that the automatic Phone Setup files for email sent by SE are INACCURATE. SE creates a Data Account called "Rogers Media" when setting up email, and this is the account that the Email settings ("Connect Using") point to by default. This account, however, is just a duplicate of the MMS account file and appears to contain the wrong APN, Username, and Password for EMAIL access (according to Tier 2 support at Rogers it should be internet.com, wapuser1, wap...instead of media.com, media, mda01). Even so, I still cannot seem to access email from the phone despite trying everything I can think of, and reading everything listed on this site that looks relevant, so feedback is welcome. (Yes...I believe I've read the other relevant threads, I've attempted numerous settings downloads from the SE site, and I've had several discussions with Rogers reps to no avail).
On a related topic...just as a head's up in case it helps anyone, the automatic SE Internet Profile file for WAP ("Rogers") currently contains a proxy IP address of 208.200.067.151. When using this, you cannot access the browser or Internet from your phone (in my experience), until you change this to 150 instead of 151. I'm not sure why SE appears to be sending the wrong IP address on its automatic update for WAP...I'm just reporting what I've seen.
I finally got Rogers email to work on the K790a after many hours of trying. Note that the automatic configuration files available on the SE site for Email setup are not entirely correct and need some adjustments in order to get it to work. I know some or all of this is available online in various places, but here are the settings that worked for me in case it helps:
DATA ACCOUNT (Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Data Communication > Data Accounts)
* If you used the SE Phone Setup service, SE will have created a file called "Rogers Media" on your phone when configuring email settings.
* If not, you will need to creat a separate file for email and you can call it whatever you like (e.g. 'Rogers Internet'). I simply went into the Rogers Media file already created and made manual changes to the settings.
* APN = internet.com (not media.com as provided by SE)
* Username = wapuser1 (not media...)
* Password = wap (not mda01...)
* Everything else can be left blank, including IP Address and DNS Address
EMAIL SETTINGS (Menu > Messages > Email > Settings)
* Again, SE will have created an account file called "Rogers" if you used their service. The settings need to be adjusted from the default provided.
* If not, you will need to create a New Account called "Rogers" (or whatever)
* Account Name = <name provided or created> Mine says "Rogers"
* Email Alert = <select from menu> Mine says "Message Alert 2" (doesn't matter)
* Connect Using = <whatever DATA ACCOUNT name you created above> Mine says "Rogers Media" (using the adjusted settings for internet.com listed above)
* Email Address = <username>@rogers.com
* Connection Type = POP3
* Incoming Server = pop.broadband.rogers.com (note that SE automatically supplied an IP address of 172.025.000.115, which may or may not work too)
* Username = <username to access Rogers email> Mine is <username>@rogers.com (same as email address)
* Password = <password used to access Rogers email> Mine is the same as the password I use on my desktop PC using Outlook
* Outgoing Server = smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com (not smtp.broadband.rogers.com as supplied by SE)
* Advanced Settings: no need to change anything (no Encryption required for example)
I put an email into SE to let them know they may need to verify/check their file settings here...who knows what will happen though.
And last but certainly not least, you need to make sure that your DATA package/plan supports using the APN (Access Point Name) called "internet.com". You may have to call Rogers Wireless (Data Services > Products and Plans) to verify. When I called, the rep told me that I already had the internet.com APN activated (I just have the $5, 2MB data plan called "navigate mobile internet"). However, as soon as I got off the phone with her, my email spontaneously started to work despite having tried these exact settings (among others) for many many futile hours. I suspect she may have done something to make sure internet.com was activated. In any case, I'm happier today than yesterday.
Hey thanks for the guide now after entering those settings i just get a blank page, which is better than saying that it dosent work. Any sugesstions? i am using a razr2 V9
I have done every thing you said, i even read trough everyone elses hoping to find a solution, but all i get is a Connection Failed! pop up. I have the LG Vu CU920.
