    Tether options?

I currently use Cingular for their phone service, but I do not want to pay $60+ to tether (legally). Which companies offer cheaper rates to tether? I think Sprint and T-Mobile do, but I do not want to limit myself to them...

    What about Ampd, Helio, etc?

BTW, my laptop does not have a card slot, so I am limited to connecting a phone...

How come you don't want T-mobile? I have them and I use my Blackberry 8100 to tether to my laptop. In fact, I am doing it right now. It's the cheapest rates around.

The other companies you mention, Ampd and Helio are small companies and it's not widespread across the U.S. like T-mobile, Cingular, Sprint / Nextel, and Verizon is.

I was under the impression that T-Mobile limited you to certain websites...what does T-mobile charge? Keep in mind, I am looking for a prepaid option...

All that means is that you probably won't be using the software provided by the carrier, if they provide any, since 99% of the time it's for Windows. And my experience is that most of the provided software is crap anyway. About the only time I've seen proprietary connectivity software be necessary, even though it is crapware, is when you're using a Samsung or a SideKick. I've successfully tethered my PowerBook using a variety of Nokias, a Motorola RAZR (shudder: GPRS only), and even a Samsung.
    signatures? off.
