    Ruleset for operator name display

    RULESET FOR OPERATOR DISPLAY

The ruleset for network name display is:

    1) If the Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC) from the cell site match the MCC and MNC on the SIM, the Service Provider Name on the SIM is used (e.g. this would be the case with an old Omnipoint SIM in New Jersey).

    2) If the MCC-MNC combination does not match, the phone checks a table in its firmware for an entry corresponding to the MCC and MNC received. If found, the network name from that entry is displayed.

3)If no table entry is found, the country abberviation (or the MCC if no country name entry is found in firmware) and the MNC are displayed.

There are somewhat different rules if both phone and SIM support EONS, which appears to allow the Service Provider Name on the SIM to be mapped to multiple MCC-MNCs.

    Op Logo..

I've enjoyed having a blank logo on my Nokia 6610 since i got the phone back in Jan. In April, the MNC for my area was changed, and the blank logo was changed to VoiceStream on the display.

I'm using a new SIMcard that I just got a month ago because I lost the old one. I was hoping -since it was a new SIM- that the problem is solved with the new SIM. But what I got when the SIM is activated, an ugly TMO operator logo.

I'm wondering, if I want to get the blank logo back,

-do i have to get another simcard from t-mobile?
    or
-can i have the SIM updated with the new MNC?

(I dont know if the MNC is embedded permanently in SIM or updateable).

Please give me some input. Thanks.

some phones, such as mine, have an option to show operator name/logo or not.
