    lol.

The one I saw had a similar keypad but the keys were all the same color. It may just be the lighting.
Do we know if the external dispalay was color or monochrome.
I know you said the one you saw was color, but someone else said the 8700 they saw was monocrome.

Those are legit, but the keypad looked a little different on the one I saw. It was all one color and might have been organized a little differently. The phone is very RAZR'esq but has a very solid feel to it and the inside screen and camera are awsome.

Are there any kind of rubber separators between the keys or is it one smooth, flat surface?

I don't know for sure, but just based on what I can tell about the size/layout of the external display, at least going on how it appears on the picture, it would seem that whether or not it was monochrome or color it wouldn't really display pictures or messages or much of anything of that sort--if anything it'd probably display stuff like time and possibly various status indicators, maybe like the LG VX6000 (except vertical instead of horizontal) and/or like PEBL or some Samsung phones.

It's possible that the "coloring" that appears on the keypad number keys is actually more of indentation effect, or at least some sort of use of separators--some keys that are of one color are (very) slightly raised or depressed, or perhaps surrounded by a (very) small border, so that by sliding your fingers you can basically tell where you are.

I am was disappointed when I saw the external screen. It doesn't look big at all. How is LG going to compete against the new RAZR Maxx Ve? The new RAZR has a 1.7" external screen! Compare that to the current VX8600, that has a 1.3" external screen.

This is my opinion, no one flame me please but, I think its overhyped a little. I like the chrome look though.

I wouldn't mind if the external display was blue OLED like the A930 and VX6000.
But I still think the 262K Color TFT External Display in the VX8000 was the best ANY phone has had.

For anyone who has held it in their hand: Do the keys with that design offer tactile feedback as to which number? Thats about the only complaint I have about the 8600.

Our LG rep said "maybe" in March...and then did the *wink, wink* Course the genious didn't have one with him, nor did he have an opinion about the key pad.

The keypad is very RAZR-esque. It has the same rubber-like separations between the keys. Also, the external display is very similar to the Samsung A930, but is full color.

And believe it or not, if you activate the camera and close the flip, that itty-bitty external display actually DOES operate as a self-picture display.
I'm just here to inform, even if it's myself.

Full color? Thats cool. How was readability? I take you've been able to play...what do you think?

If that outer screen does not display color......dont you think LG is going a bit backwards? Almost every phone has it now, why would you make a phone with such a small plain outer display? I think its a bit dumb.

This is a style phone. Form over function.

The outer screen kinda kills it for me. I'm not that big of a fan of small outer screens. I guess it's just a preference. I was/am spoiled with my vx8000 I guess.

That outer screen is coming perilously close to a deal breaker for me. All my VX8000 users know how easy it is to get used to reading text messages without having to open the screen; it's one of the features that still surprises some (less tech-inclined) people, even though the phone is... 2-3 years old now?

I'm up for NE2 and jonesing for some new tech, but I'm pretty damn disappointed that VZW doesn't appear to be getting the Shine. I was seriously looking forward to it.

I might end up getting this one, depending on reviews. Keep us posted, O Purveyors of Inside Information!
