    LG VX8600: Contacts/Phonebook Backup Instructions

For those of us who don't want to pay the monthly service charge or buy backup software to backup up our contacts/phonebook for our VX8600, I have a solution. Exporting the phonebook using bitpim doesn't save all the information for a contact so here is how to do it using bitpim's filesystem:

    1. Open bitpim and click on filesystem once the phone is connected.
    2. Go to the pim folder.
    3. Save the following files to someplace on your computer:

    pbspeed.dat
    pbmyentry.dat
    pbgroup.dat
    pbentry.dat
    pbRingIdSetAsPath.dat
    pbPictureIdSetAsPath.dat

Your phonebook is now backed up. If you need to restore it, just overwrite/add those file back to the pim directory.

Also, an easier way of doing it is to right-click the pim folder and select backup directory. This will put all the files in the directory into a zip file. You can open it and extract the files you need to restore your contacts/phonebook when needed.

    Hope this helps somebody!

True but no airtime is required using my way and I was just offering an alternative.
