Thanks for the tip tszefr! Good to know about the $5 left issue. Will check out the Radio Shack deal too.

I have a question. I got a AT&T prepaid sim from my daughter who just bought a new go phone when she moved and wanted a new number. Can I change the phone number on the old sim and use it once I put a refill on it? Both she and I don't want to use the phone number that is on it now. The account is currently active but has a balance of $0.00

From this description, the answer is no. If it was T-mobile, you would get it done easily. Once an AT&T sim is in service, getting a number change is rare. Even if you want to port a number in, you probably "need" a new sim.

Likely you can get handed one for free in a store. Just wander in with it in your hand and tell what you are trying to do (without asking for a sim) and they will probably take care of you. Be prepared to buy or produce a refill.

Another way to get a usable blank sim card is to buy a blister packed Go phone, like the C168i for $10.

I went into the store and they changed the number but would only give me a number from the same area code. So I have a central Florida number in south Florida. But it's all good.

    i have a question.

i'm planning on buying a samsung 707SC with GSM 900/1800/1900
would it work with a pay as you go sim from AT&T?

and would it be possible to just buy some cheap prepaid phone from cingular and take out the SIM and just stick it in my 707?

    Answering the second question, Yes.

Now on the 3 bander lacking 850, we would say that is undesirable because Cingular has lots of 850 and your experience will suffer without it. If you know they run only 1900 where you will be, go for it.

Is it true that at the end of March the cost for pay per use text messaging would be 20cents each

FYI, the "20% Bonus" offer for reloading a PAYG phone with $25 or more within 7 days of activation changed to a flat $10 Bonus on 2/29. I missed it by one day. Grr!

Are you sure you are not talking about the $10 bonus PIN for activation that ALWAYS has come with the phone? I'm still seeing the 20% promotion being offered in ther website.

The activation kits with the $10 are being discontinued after the remaining stock is used up. The promo u posted will still be in affect. The new activation kits wont contain a $10 but u will get a refill bonus after adding the $25+ refill within 7 days due to false churn. I thought the final promo was gonna be the 20% bonus but I see its not.

Interesting it's still listed somewhere on their web site. If you download the latest PDF version of their brochure from here you'll see it was changed.

I ordered my cheap $10 Nokia PAYG phone from the AT&T web site a few days ago and received it Friday, 2/29, and loaded $100 on it to maximize the 20% bonus. As of today I *still* haven't received ANY bonus, but when I called Customer Care on Friday, things got amusing.

I explained (several times) during my first call that I should have received a $20 bonus. She INSISTED "sir, it's not REALLY 20%, it's just $5, and you got $5" referring to the Loyalty Bonus that got triggered by the refill. I told her it's right there in the brochure that arrived with the phone, "20% Bonus" and she said again "it's not 20% of the amount you refill, it's just 20%". GRR! She could not answer "20% of WHAT". I pointed out that she obviously failed fifth grade math and asked for a supervisor. She said she would get one, it would take 15 to 20 minutes, during which time she did not put me on hold and I heard her pounding away at the keys and humming to herself. After about 10 minutes she just disconnected.

I called BACK in and got a far more helpful rep who explained that I should be receiving the 20% bonus within a few days and that it really should be $20, since it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that 20% of $100 is $20. Just before we hung up, she said, "sir, excuse me, can you wait just a minute... let me double-check something for you." I agreed, and a minute or two later she came back on the phone and said there was a memo that came out a few days ago letting them know that as of 2/29 the promotion is changing to a flat $10 bonus.

A little pissed that I was sold a product under the impression that I would receive a 20% bonus (not the flat $10 bonus I have still not received) I realize a bonus is a bonus and I should be thankful for whatever I get, and I expressed appreciation for her double-checking and clearing up the matter.

Now I'm still just waiting to get my $10, and nobody at AT&T seems to know how long it'll take for that to post to the account.

why is it that AT&T's Go Phone is becoming so much expensive in comparison to the other prepaid services offered. I mean I've seen some prepaid service providers with a higher cpm but they have other programs [VM's Sugar Mama, Tracfone's bonus codes, etc] that kinda counteracts the high cpm. So far I have not seen any attractive deals with AT&T's Go Phone

Marvelous. Upon following the link to the 20% Bonus information posted previously, I see "within 5 business days" but the attitude at AT&T is "it'll get there when it gets there."

Be patient, well maybe a little. The 5 biz days seems acceptable but changing the deal after you bought it is not. Sort of like one vendor's offer of a "cash rebate" that he fills with scrip. Not cash, not rebate. You popped the $100 just to take advantage of the 20% bonus. I would insist, and not settle for half of what was promised. It may take you a few calls but I predict you will get it. There really are some reps there who have a lick of sense and who will do the right thing and are a pleasure to work with. You just have to find one.
