I upgraded my daughter's feature phone to the Google Galaxy Nexus by moving the SIM card to the new phone and tested out the data by doing an email upload. She generally uses WiFi for data. Will they eventually put her on a plan if she uses data or just leave it as it is at $0.01/5KB?
I was thinking of doing the same thing or going with the $5/50MB prepaid plan - can I do this with my existing $0.25/min voice plan? I have a Verizon MiFi at $50/5 GB which I can use if I need more data. The plan is to eventually get rid of the MiFi and go to a plan with more data, perhaps the $15 or $25 AT&T plan.
If the phone is recognized as a smartphone by AT&T, data will not work at all unless you purchase a data package. Data packages are not automatically added to GoPhone lines. Voice is now $0.10 per minute. You have to subscribe to one of the thirty day plans to purchase data packages.

Thanks for the comments. I looked around and it appears that coverage is better on a no-commitment plan though it would cost a lot more than what I am paying now. My usage is about 15-20 minutes of voice and maybe 10-15 texts messages per month and the cheapest no-commitment plan is $39.99 for voice.
My MiFi is $50/month so I could replace that with the AT&T $50 data plan that includes tethering. It seems like there is no way to get around the relatively expensive voice plan.
That's for me. My daughter will probably just use hers on WiFi - if she needs data, she can try using it until it doesn't work anymore. She has never had mobile data before so I don't now that she will miss it.
2 questions. I am on the minute plan now. I want to move to the $25 monthly plan. will I lose the $$ balance remaining on my minute plan if I switch to the monthly?
2: If I purchase the $25 data plan it expires in 30 days. Is there any rollover feature?

thanks very much.
1. If you have at least $25 to cover the monthly charge for the plan, it will be deducted from your balance.
2. Rollover only occurs with feature packages like data and text messages (for the ten cent plan). Any unused minutes you have won't be usable the following month when the minutes remaining are reset.
HELP!
Have my new iPhone 3Gs up and working with jail break. Paid for the $25/month plan plus bought a data plan as well. Currently there is $70 on the account. So how come I am only able to do texts and calls, but no internet when WiFi isn't available and no pics with texts? Is there yet another setting I need to change?
GoPhone uses a different Access Point Name (APN) from postpaid service with the iPhone. The default APN for postpaid service with the iPhone is "phone." The APN needed by GoPhone is "wap.cingular." The periods at the end of the APN's are not parts of the names. The period between "wap" and "cingular" is part of the name.

Thanks! Now the bonehead in me needs to ask, where in the phone's settings do I find where to change the APN? I see a VPN under Settings but nothing for APN. Thanks in advance for humoring me!

Gophone is technically a prepaid division of Att NOT an mvno. An mvno is merely a reseller of a major network and besides sharing the technical network, has nothing else to do with them. 4G via hspa plus is supported on Att Gophone and mvnos but NOT LTE. 4G is something Att themselves should decide to clarify. There are MANY instances of gsm/Att iphones being used on Att Gophone/mvnos. Lots. Just because they claim data is not supported does not make it a practical reality. Att store jerk...uh clerks. (sorry I transpose sometimes). They know less then the average advanced Hofo does. Some long time Hofos here can run rings around those clowns. I wouldn't take their word on much. And they don't even pay hofos.
Data for Att via Gophone or mvno is restrictive because Att doesn't appear to want to be liberal with data. The best offerings are 1)Gophone feature phone $50 unlimited everything with a smartphone that's not blocked (Idk what they are anymore). 2)Net10, even though they cap now at 1.5 gigs. 3)Red Pocket's return of their $60 unlimited talk/text/mms/2 gig plan. 4) Good 2 Go's $50 unlimited talk/text/1 gig plan.
If you are in a Tmobile coverage area that is good and is refarmed, use them instead of Att for more and faster and cheaper data. Really, Att's being a stick in the mud...

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum, and not yet a GoPhone customer. I'm currently a Virgin Mobile customer, but I was grandfathered into an old plan that the overhaul of their system made untenable (my messaging packs were not automatically renewing even though the charge was automatically renewing, essentially). I'm seriously considering switching to Go Phone, to their pay as you go plan, $0.10/minute. I just have some questions:
1.) I primarily text, rather than need voice calls or a data plan. Is the 1,000 texts for $9.99/month compatible with the pay as you go plan? Does the cost deduct from the amount of money (say $100.00/year) I have in my account or would it be a separate charge?
2.) Does the messaging pack auto-renew every month as long as your account is current? Have people had trouble with it NOT renewing when it should -- which is what's been happening to me over at VM.

If you put in $100 you plan will last one year, but at $10 a month you will need to add money for month 11 and 12.
$25 will last 90 days but you will need to add money for the third month. It all works as you would think if the money does not disappear with phone calls.
