    They still have daily rates. They aren't advertised much at all anymore, but are still offered when you go to activate a phone. $1.99 gets you unlimited calling to anyone for the day, while 99 cents nets guy unlimited calling to Verizon customers and ten cents per minute to everyone else.

    Or you can just pay 25 cents a minute (minimum $5 per month) but minutes rollover. While that may seem ridiculous to most people, keep in mind that is still the lowest you will pay per month to have Verizon . Some people just care about emergencies, and so they want the most reliable network for the lowest monthly cost. My father has about 700 minutes accumulated over the last 40 months from rollover, so he just wants to have a phone for quick one minute phone calls, and he wants to pay as little as possible. He hates the cell phone.
