Is a T-Mobile store the only place to buy a prepaid SIM (not thestarter kit)?

I want to buy just the SIM with some minutes since i have an unlocked phone.

Can I get these at places like CVS/Walmart etc or would I need to go to a TMob store?

i'm just curious about the store locations because I'm going away this weekend and want to test tmob service while I'm there. if time wan't a factor, i'd definitely go for ebay.

Unconfirmed rumor has it that buying a SIM from a TMo store is more expensive than buying a whole phone (with SIM included) from Wal-Mart ($29.97 with $10 worth of minutes). Probably wouldn't hurt to try walking into a TMo store and asking how much an activation kit would cost you, though.

Last time I checked the retail price for a stater kit was $50 at a corp store.
Just do the walmart deal if it is convenient for you.
It will be a better deal all the way around.

Are corp stores required to sell at a certain price? In other words, will the price at one corp store automatically be the same at another corp store?

I agree with everyone else. eBay will be your best bet for a good deal on SIM only.

You'll have to get a "kit" i.e. a SIM card plus an activation code. There will be a card to fill out to help you through the activation process when you call 877-778-2107 (automated activation line.) You'll have to refer to the IMEI (serial number) as well as the numbers on the back of your SIM. If you want to do it the 'cheap' way get an already activated SIM on eBay for ~$12 or so delivered. You'll more than likely have to add money to the account within six weeks or less and you'll probably want to change the phone number of the account to your local one (if it matters to you.) You'll be able to get refill cards/PINs at lots of places such as supermarkets, 7-11, Circle K, etc. You'll have to get an actual SIM kit (if that's your choice) at a T-Mobile corp. store.

do t-mobile corp stores sell plain sims that arent activated? i.e. if one were to lose their phone/sim but had a backup phone and all they needed was to move their account from the lost sim to a new one
i know in canada (where i am now) fido and rogers both sell their unactivated sims for 25 bucks in pretty much any cell phone store - but fido and rogers dont require activation kits for prepaid which is why i ask

If something were to happen to your SIM card TMobile would most likely just give you a new one. I do know that Cingular will charge $25 for a new one.
