Thanks peeps for the great information, admittedly i would have never figured all that out. As the forum users are saying, just put a little effort into it, and you can find all the needed pieces. It is a little ridiculous that one has to go through these means due to classic corporate greed, but thats where we are.

There is a Sticky thread: Tutorial: VX8300: How to upgrade/downgrade your firmware W/Pics
That is the best flashing guide.

And for installing the DLL, use this guide:
    http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=981424

And for the latest DLL, go to my humpa.com/vzw page as always (the higher the number, the newer the DLL). The newest DLL is the one you want, which is the 2.47 DLL for the 8500.

It is much harder to read thru and learn everything, and acquire the software and get it working, than it is to actually perform the operations when you are finally ready.

I'm using Telus mobility and I'm trying to use the bitpim software on the LG Chocolate vx8500 but I'm getting this error:

IndexError: Trying to read 23 bytes starting at 1702 which will go beyond end of 1716 byte buffer

I'm not sure what it means, I just want to try and transfer a ringtone to the phone is it that Telus has locked the phone and if so is there a way around this problem?

Thanks a bunch if you can answer this question.

Are you sure you have the same LG VX8500 that VZW has? This might be something particular to the Telus model and/or the Telus firmware/software, in which case the Telus forum and/or the general LG forum might be better.

I answered your other post (don't double post!).
Tell us exactly what your firmware version is (look in your phone's menu and tell us exactly what it says).
