It didn't erase my custom ringtones when I flashed to V05.
But I already said this 6 posts ago.

May I ask how you did this? Did you send them in a message, or use an online loader, or did you find another way?

I have been using the old pix trick. At 112kbps a 20 second ringtone is about 275kb and will not be compressed by Verizon's message server. Just send an email to **********@vzwpix.com and attach the ringtone. When you get it just select save as ringtone. ********** is your phone number. This also works with backgrounds.

you can do that or you can just make the ringtone under 200kb. i used my chocolate and sent it to mine under sounds. then i would text my friend the song and save it as a ringtone. i tried the email thing and half of the time it wouldnt work.

For what it's worth, my VX8600's SW version is T86VZV02 (got this in January) and I have no trouble at all accessing it with bitpim over bluetooth. Unfortunately in this version there are no custom TXT/PIX/EML alerts for individual contacts, and because of that and my use case I'll be upgrading as soon as I hear of a firmware wherein LG readds that functionality.

I have 2 chocolates (cherry and strawberry) I am trying to decide which I like better and returning the other. My Cherry has ver 4 and my strawberry ver 5. This is what I noticed right away is different between them:

    1. Bitpim is locked out for ver 5
    2. You can now adjust all volume levels without first hitting the side button to unlock the phone (ring volume, speaker volume, music volume)
    3. When listening to music and it goes to your main screen with your wallpaper, if you hit the music button on the side it goes to your player and shows you whats playin so you can hit next, pause, etc. On my ver 4 phone when i hit the music button it goes tp the playlists option and tells me i have no playlists then tries to start vcast. On the ver 4 if I want to stop or change a song I am listening to i have to go to menu, music, my music, etc and start from scratch. PITA!!!

I will let you know anything else I notice different between them as I am using both phones for the next 15 days to decide which I like better. (I originally thought this decision was going to be a color decision only, but not anymore since they changed the software)

just replace the ttt. with www. It states it is for LG VX9800 (V) - T98VZV05
which is not even a chocolate ?????
That page doesn't say anything at all about the V05 chocolate firmware actually being the 9800 firmware. The 9800 firmware is T98VZV05, the 8500's is T85VZV05.

The chocolate's from the store that have T85VZV05 are also locked out of BitPim.

Why does verizon try so hard to screw the end user out of being able to install their own cutom ringtones and wallpapers? Isn't there some way to complain about them manipulating the phones in such a way?

It's simple economics. Verizon makes it impossible for you to do it yourself because they want to force you to purchase their own service.

If you really want to complain, you need to drop your service along with a few million other people. Because that will never happen, your best bet is to file a complain through planetfeedback.com.

    firmware for other phones

I haven't even seen one, but ideally, wouldn't the firmware for the vx8600 v02 or whatever they are on, shouldn't that firmware load? Plus the GUI and everything should be virtually identical to the vx8500 correct? Several have said it allows bitpim access. I haven't been able to find that firmware thus far, but it's maybe a viable option once it shows up. no?

    Why?
V04 works fine - no need for using another phone's firmware. As a rule, that doesn't work, and if it does it will probably have at least some issues.
