Well, I recently noticed a new thread about Bitpim not working with the new V5 firmware and the guy had the first actual sighting of it. My wife just got in her new strawberry chocolate today it has the same firmware. Verified through BitPim and the phone itself.
I'm posting this in the hopes we can get the ball rolling out getting this new firmware to work as well as the 03 and 04 do with Bitpim.

if its locked out by VZW... im not sure you can unlock it. BREW would have to hacked.. right? (or can QPST get in... cant remember). Either way.. its LAME
Why would VZW do this on this phone? are there other LG phones that bitpim cant hit the ringtone folder?? or is this going to be the new trend with software....
the thing is.. im thinking VZW locked it.. V04 came out and had no issues. there was nothing that had to be unlocked. You may want to entertain the idea of flashing backward to v04
Since you don't link another thread... Please define exactly what you mean by...

Is it that BitPim doesn't auto-detect the phone?
Does it not read pix, ring tones, videos from the phone into the GUI?
does it no write pix, ring tones, videos from the GUI to the phone?
does it give error messages while browsing the file system??
Does it give error codes or messages? if so, what exactly do they say?
In other words... exactly WHAT Doesn't work?
It can't be fixed, until we know exactly what's "broke"!

Connecting to the phone works perfectly fine.
Attempting to Get any phone data or Send any phone data results in the following error: "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider."
I am currently checking to see if accessing the file system allows me to read or write.
Okay, working through the filesystem rather than standard buttons gives the same error. The whole filesystem can be viewed but nothing can be saved from the phone or written to the phone.
you can view ALL of it? but not saved from?? thats odd... if u can read the folders and the stuff in the folders.. its not locked.
Can you see the mr/ms/mp etc folders? take a pic and save to the phone memory..
then go in bitpim and find it.. if u can see the file then u should be able to save it.
If it ends up that VZW has blocked this, it might move me closer to another carrier. Even if I find out a way to bypass it, the fact that I have to is annoying. Verizon's network is not becoming so exclusive anymore, and the massive mergers that are going on make other networks a viable alternative.
I do not see any worthwhile upgrades, but I haven't really played with it much. I have spent all day trying to download the almighty 1.3.6.3 and hunting down a bunch of other stuff.
I can say whatever it does upgrade is not worth the loss of Bitpim function.
I tried to flash to V4 but it always hangs on reading an ERF file 10.key. ANy ideas?

I flashed my 8500 with the V05 as well.
I don't notice any differences, but I only used my 8500 occasionally back in August/September, so I don't really know it intimately anyway. It hasn't been activated in a while, and it still isn't.
I can't see all the files in BitPim's Filesystem (using 9.0.8), and the ones I can see I cannot save.
And with LG Download 1.3.6.3 I can't put it in NV Edit mode - I've tried using the 8300 dll and the 8500 dll. I get an error that says "can't read pim/call_hist_nv.dat file from phone"
I'll try flashing back, but I imagine I'll get the same error as RichChrisB
EDIT: yeah, same error
EDIT2: and since no one mentioned it, the Bluetooth profiles haven't changed at all either: DUN, BT Diag, Audio Gateway, and OPP for VCards.
