But I followed steps 1-4 in the "VX8500: Accessing NVM directory and LC subdirectory (mini guide)", which worked perfectly. I'm able to access the filesystem, etc.

Probably a horribly stupid question... but which folder/file do I overwrite for ringtones??

    Thank you
All the LG's are basically the same. Follow any of the ringtone guides. Here's the 9900 ringtone guide:

It isn't available to the general public. You probably need to be an authorized LG tech or whatever.

EDIT: and you only have a certain amount of time where you can edit your post (15 minutes, 30 minutes?)

Just so you guys know, V6 is the latest now. I work at VZW. It's on our latest software print out. Hasn't been pushed over to our flashing workstation yet though. I'm ready to see what it does for these phones...

lol, maybe v6 solves the "problem" of filesystem access that somehow survived v5

Still able to view the filesystem using bitpim... went to brew/16452/lk/mr and right clicked new file to add a ringtone, but I'm getting an exception error from bitpim.. doesn't seem like it wants to let me add a file.

Anyone else have a problem like this or know a solution to it??

I'm going to scream if I actually have to purchase ringers from verizon from now on..

Use the new DLL with LG Download and put the phone in NV Edit mode, and then use BitPim.

Read post #66 - I summed up the procedure based on what alanh discovered. Hopefully that will keep you from screaming.

Okay, I'm completely lost. I have the black Chocolate and I want to change it to the red (cherry) VX8500 Cherry Chocolate Firmware V04. How would I do this with success?

Rename the Cherry firmware from VZR04 to VZV04 and just flash like normal.

EDIT: if you need a flashing guide, try the CHOCOLATE v4 SOFTWARE UPDATE sticky thread or the 8300 flashing sticky thread.

Wouldn't I have to change it from VZV04 to VZR04 if I have the black chocolate (which I do). I want to change my black chocolate to the cherry fimware. Correct me if i'm wrong please.

No, the firmware version that is on your phone right now would be VZV04 and to able to use a different color firmware, it needs to be named the same as the original so that the phone thinks it's still the same. Hence the fact VZR04 needs to be renamed VZV04.

syst3merror already answered, but I'm confused now.
The cherry firmware is already named VZR04, so I don't even understand your question. I'm now thinking that perhaps you are misunderstanding something. You don't reaname anything on your phone, and you don't rename the black firmware. You rename the cherry firmware file itself.

ok, here is what is going on:

You own the black chocolate. it has version v04 firmware on it. If you were to take that firmware off, it would be labeled VZV04.

Now, you acquire the firmware for the cherry chocolate. It would be labeled VZR04.

To be able to load the cherry chocolate firmware on the black chocolate, you HAVE to rename the file to VZV04 so that the black chocolate "thinks" you are just loading its own firmware into the phone. It doesn't know what color it it, just the firmware name.

    Make sense?!?! lmao

He hasn't responded back. I think your first answer will set him straight, though your latest response should help him as well.
I posted because I was merely confused as to how he could rename the VZR04 to VZR04.

What does V5 mean as far as music on the Chocolate goes? I have a Strawberry, so I'm stuck with V5 and no Bitpim. Sorry, I'm pretty new to this - feel free to link another thread or send me in the right direction, but I haven't found anything that really answers my question.

Did BitPim allow you to put non-Windows Media Player songs on the phone, or can you do that anyways? All I know from reading the manual is that it says that only VCAST, CD, or songs purchased from WMP can be used.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the stupid question.
