Thinking about switching to Sprint, I have a few Questions

I'm thinking about switching to sprint. I'm totally clueless about sprint phones, as im with verizon wireless now. Here is what im looking for:

    Long battery life
Loud Speaker (Speaker phone and music)
    Screen resolution
Service (Sprint isn't the best in my area)
    durability
Expandable memory (or enough to hold 25+ songs)
    Power Vision

I think the Sanyo m1 or 8400 is the way to go, but i havent had sprint in 2 years so i dont know. I used to have a samsung and it was good...

My cousin has a sanyo and it is sturdy

You guys might think im answering my own quesiton, but i want your imput with your experience.

My final concern is, do any Sprint Phones (NOT PPC or PDAs) offer Bluetooth file transfers between two phones.

    thanks in advance!

The M1 will give you plenty of internal memory for about 200 songs as it has 1gig of internal, but its not expandable....

Your best choice i would say is get the FUSIC....It has everything you want....It not Sanyo but LG does make a pretty solid High-End Phone

The Fusic (IMHO) is the Pure Media Handset even more-so then the M1 because of the expandable memory card slot.

Having had T-Mobile for the past 5 years, I recently switched to Sprint Sero and had one problem: CDMA - cmon.. its cdma! Battery lasts a day if that. Other than that, signal is excellent (Full signal everywhere I go I drive between Palm Desert, San Diego and LA on a weekly basis and used to drop signal on the 60. 3G is excellent i pull around 500 - 700k down using my phone as a modem. I would recommend the M1 as Sanyo has always been a steller phone for sprint (loudest speakerphone I have EVER used) Garmin Mobile works well when I'm not in my car (Honda Accord w/Navi) I use it while walking sometimes and even navigated my friend and I through Glendale last week with Garmin.. All in all I'm happy.

Be sure to use the trial period if Sprint isn't the best in your area. You might be able to get by with it but it would be irritating to go outside in the winter to use the phone. It just depends on your exact locations and what you're willing to tolerate I guess.

I was in Cleveland with a couple friends last Fall and it did seem like Alltel and Verizon both had better coverage, especially a few places inside, than my friend that had Sprint. Not sure but it might be an iPCS market or not the best tower placement for a PCS carrier in some areas.

To the OP- The Fusic will support a 2gb card and you did ask about expandable memory and the M1 cannot be expanded, i even heard of the 4gb become available dont know if any phone will read a card that large though.

I believe both the Fusic and the M1 will let file trsf via BT, I could be wrong.

If getting coverage in your basement is important, you also might want to think about an external antenna and consider a phone that has a port for an antenna. Also, if you know anybody that uses another carrier, any other carrier, an invitation for dinner and a reception test might not be a bad idea. If Sprint and Verizon didn't get in there, Alltel and/or T-Mobile trials might be worth a try if you think it's worth the hassle which I've heard are both good in your area.

Sprint is about to start booting customers that roam more than 50% though if he spends much time there and can force roam on Alltel with a better signal. He'd also have to be real careful about switching his phone back and forth between 'Roaming' and 'Sprint' if it holds onto a weak Sprint signal in Auto. And even then, why not go with the one with the better signal and stay on it all over the house? Even then, it wouldn't pick up a T-Mo if they somehow get their signal into the basement. If it is an iPCS market in that part of Ohio, the roaming might not even be free.

Alltel or T-Mobile plans might strike the op as a better deal even though he's not considered them yet. They both generally give more anytime minutes and have My Circle and My Faves respectively while Sprint has nights at 7 so it might not make sense to pay more to use a roaming signal depending on calling habits.

Just saying there are valid reasons to try and go with the provider that can get in there. And in the basement, it might be that nobody is able to get a signal in there. But at least the op knows that there are other options to try before giving up.

But as for the phone, anything Moto generally has legendary RF.

And Majority of the time he will be spending time in his basement.Yea Right..My mothers basement get no SPCS once you go far from the staircase.(Like over where the washer and dryer are)..Not an issue in my book..who will be making majority of their calls from a basement.....Even if its his bedroom...He's not going to be spending that much time in a basement.

But one thing he may do is leave his native all coverage area for months at a time where he will need to be roaminng and Alltel has the 50% roaming rule as well. So SPCS can provide the Nationwide native coverage. Alltel can....Each carrier has their points..

Let the OP Decided...that's what the 30day trial is for.

The 50% roaming rule is easy to balance out if you have a land line, a place in your house from which you can make SPCS calls, unlimited nights, and an MP3 player. :-)
    Sprint SERO 500
    F& F w/7pm nights & UM2M & Power Vision= $30
    - Unlimited SMS Text Messaging $ 0.00
    - Total Equipment Protection $ 7.00
    - Pemium text messaging service. $5.00

    Total: $ 42.00 + Taxes

I think this is why Sprint doesnt bother to enforce and i really dont think they will start....If you are Roaming insanely like that anyway Sprint should not be your carrier.

    Has anyone been booted yet?

Have we seen any authentic documents or confirmation from Sprint?

If not, then I STILl put no credence to it. And besides, if the rumor turns out to be true and they do boot him it'll be without an ETF fee, so it's no skin off his back. He walks away with a phone that he can eBay if he wants, and can port his number back.

That's simply why I said it depends on the ops situation and was trying to present options. There are several people I know that work at home, and the basement is a very good place for an office. That just sounds like something for the op to decide, I agree with you there.

scaredpoet, rumor or fact, if it is true it would be a lot to go through and a major inconvenience. And as I stated before, there might be other options where the op wouldn't have to go and change the settings on his phone every time he walked into the basement and was trying to present every alternative that might get him a signal there. The op might not have considered those other alternatives just because nobody had yet mentioned the idea. That seems to be a main point of the forum. I don't think it's any way offensive toward Sprint, there's places where every carrier covers that others don't. T-Mo or Alltel *MIGHT* have a good angle at the basement. But it might just help out the op *IF* another carrier does cover a location that was previously a big enough deal to switch carriers over.
