Hiptop 3 No APN Setting Box Help Please

    Hi,
I just got an unlocked Suncom Branded HipTop3 off eBay. I put my sim card into it and it pulls the network up and makes calls fine. I am trying to change the APN settings but when I go into the Network Options Screen it does not show the option to change the apn like it is supposed to. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Dude. HIPTOPS WILL NOT CONNECT TO DATA on ANY carrier except the one its sold for! And they must be activated through that carrier. So, you must subscribe to the hiptop-specific data plan from Suncom before you can use it anywhere. And if you roam to Canada you pay lots of $$$$.

There is nothing you can do.

    You bought yourself a paperweight.

You can't do anything. Even if you change the APN, the Sidekick/Hiptop is still hardcoded to only work on the network it was programmed for. In this case, your Hiptop 3 will only work on Suncom.

EXACTLY what he said TOO - same goes to confirm with CityFingers!

changing the APN does nothing - even on the SK2! the OS is designed for that specific carrier ... remember the Download Catalog thats specific to the carrier offerings and its integrated to the OS, Email, WebBrowser, IM clients!

I have a friend that also bought a unlocked Suncom Branded Hiptop3 off of Ebay. He said he knows that the data WILL NOT ever work on any carrier other then Suncom (So yea, everyone is right on that one). You said making calls works fine, does your text messaging also work? Cause i know he can also send text messages.

voice/text go over the gsm network (not gprs/edge) so he can do that just fine w/ the unlocked sk3 .. but what's the point of a sk w/o a data plan?

    oh i know, large paperweight.

if i was you i would get a hiptop3 because it atleast has mms(something the sidekick doesnt have) so youll be able to picture text or send sound files for ringtones and whatnot. as for you not having no data or internet on your sidekick 3 and not caring if it does is like (in the eyes of many of people trying to follow a trend or lifestyle but trying to do it on the wannabe level) i have cingular myself and i would rather go for a bb pearl or 8800. to each his own.

I never knew you could MMS with the HT3. I thought you could only text (with unlocked HT3). Thats awesome.....i should tell my buddy who has one.....i don't think he knows it works. Thanks for the heads up.
