The official "Hell has frozen over, and Robo might switch to at&t" thread

A kiosk in the mall I work at has offered to pay for a good bit of my ETF. I have a few questions before I cross into the orange...uh, blue...er, gold.

How often does Cingy let you renew your contract for a phone upgrade? I don't want to get a phone now and then find out that I can't get the iPhone later (or that I have to pay $200 more for it).

And if I got MEdia Net for, say, a BlackJack, would I be able to access the full internet? Or just "selected sites"? The main reason I'd be switching to Cingular is for the 3G data...

Thanks for reading, and doublethanks for replying. You know you want to.

    Wirelessly posted (Cingular 8525: HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0)

from what I have herd cingulars contract price is going to be in the five hundred range for the iphone. I use media net for my data with my cingy 8525 and have not had one problem with them. I have been doing this for a while tho to. and yes you browse full sites like usps.com with media net. hope this answeres all of your questions.

If you're not on a FAN, you can upgrade after 23 months into a 2 year or 11 months into a one year, unless you spend over $75.00/mo on plan and features for a given line, in which case that line can upgrade after 13 months of a 2 year.

Any of the MEdia Net plans let you access any site on any port.

If you take a contract now without a phone, you should be able to get the 2 year price when the iPhone comes out if you sign a new 2 year then, but it's always possible you'll get a stupid rep then who won't do it.

Be VERY weiry of kiosks offering to "cover" your ETF.. 9.5 times out of then its bull. Kiosks do not have the power to grant credits therefore they would have to give you a check.. they will probably say "we'll send you the check!" In that case have them write you the check then and there.

I'm on a 2-year deal and Cingular only makes me wait 18 months to upgrade (1.5yrs). More than generous on their behalf.

Suffice it to say, you won't be able to get an iPhone when it comes out if you get a phone now. The iPhone is coming out in 3 months. No wireless company gives you a subsidized price with only 3 months of service. I suggest, if you want the iPhone, you wait. Or, you can sign up with Cingular and wait for the second-gen iPhone which will probably have 3G.

how can you get media net with a blackjack? The only one that they're trying to sell me is the 39.99 data plan. (NO WAY IN HELL!)

This is one of the things that is stopping me from going to Cingular.

Cingular has to do a lot more in order for me to give up my sprint contract.

As if your carrier is the best thing since sliced bread. Stop putting it on a pedestal, I've had nothing but problems when I had Cingular.

If you have average revenue below $75 per month a "standard upgrade" will be available in 23 moths.

If you have above average revenue you will be eligible sooner.

An "exception" upgrade will be available in 12-months at some stores, a select few after 6-months as long as your bill payment history is good. With an exception upgrade you still get a substantially subsidized price but it will be a little higher then the "new customer" or "standard upgrade" price.

Try not to view exception upgrades as an entitlement... they are an exception!

Cingular also has a VIP system for customers who qualify for a standard upgrade to get additional deals which are better then new customer pricing.
