I'm new to all of this S60 stuff, but one quick question, to get the firmware updated on this phone, would it be available through Nokia's website or would you have to send it in or something? Thanks!
update software.
Do Not buy from exoticphone.com! Very bad Customer Service!

I will be able to update myself online using NSU (Nokia Software Updater) that comes in the newest PC Suite

I'd probably look into the E65, 'cept I can't stand those buttons on the front and the 2MP cam, after my N73, is just poor.
Thanks RCadden, I'm honoured
The cam is....lets say....a sacrifice one must be willing to make lol

The early firmware was pretty poor on the N73, but I think the E65 is pretty ugly compared to it.
The N73 was slower; felt like I was swimming in mud sometimes. I also didn't like the look, large size, lack of wifi, lack of e-series app support, retarded gallery implementation, pinched keys, recessed screen (collects face grease) and tons of other aspects of it.
The N73 ME that I tried for 2 days was even worse because it felt cheaper.
Sorry buddy...not my cup of tea. The k790a pwned the N73 anyday
I'm always following the BBC connectivity on S60 phones. By the time I start working full time and require BBC service, I hope the S60 has it down to an art form (attachments and all)

I'm really sorry to forget to mention the browser experience in more detail.
First of all, you can control a mouse like cursor and zip around. Symbian users have known this for a while but I find it interesting how ppl who've never used the phone are amazed by the feature. The phone also does a decent job of rendering each page fast enough.
I do know there's a nasty bug that's gonna bug Treatz when he posts and that's the way the text is cut-off when posting.
I wonder if Nokia will ever be able to fix this since it's been going on since my N73 last year and they lake long to fix minor bugs.
Also, the default text alert on this phone is to sick to bloodclot. It's like a rattlesnake's tail or something that only clicks twice. Actually, it's like a sunpac bottle cap being pressed in twice. It's dirty, trust me!

I'm considering upgrading from an e61 to this phone to get something smaller with similar features. Think it's worth it now or should I wait?
As for the text cutoff bug... I usually just enter a few times and then go back up and you can see the text fine.
If JP likes it, then I don't. Nothing personal, but that's just how it has always seemed to work out, and this review has now made me choose not to buy an E65.
I will return to my seat in the lobby waiting for the N95, using my retro phones to build the anticipation.
gotta give props to those that write excellent reviews..
always a pleasure to read these in depth opinions..
i always thought the 8800/01 slide mechanism was excellent but didn't like the 'snap/collision' at the end of it's path.
Thanks and yeah, I know what you mean. This one has a similar 'snap' sound at the end but it's one of finality, not a collision.

Fantastic review, nonetheless.
Lol, I remember I got your E70 as well and I don't think you liked that one.
Siskel & Ebert lol.
Out of curiosity, what is if of this phone that you don't like?

Well, as you mentioned, the camera for me is the killer. Going back to a 2mp camera without flash or autofocus would just be too big of a step back for me to handle if I'm spending $400+ on another phone. Like others, the N73 spoiled me.
The other HUGE thing that bothers me is the 4 dedicated keys. I think I'd only use the Contacts key, since I have no use for the Teams app, I never use the Mute function, and I just don't like the idea of a Web key even though I use the Web often. It reminds me of a SE or Samsung with a dedicated Web key, ew. I liked the idea of a configurable key instead (on Euro versions I suppose?), but I don't know how to get a model with that hardware.
Other details, like it looking a bit too s40 and having an ugly (though seemingly easy to use) keypad make it lose points as well. I don't like the E-series for the almost completely disregarded media functions either.
There's no doubt in my mind that the E65 would be fantastic on funtionality, (shy of camera use) but it's kinda like a one night stand. The sex was great while I was still intoxicated, but I'd hate to wake up to that phone in the morning.
