Hey good work! I have a qa30 on its way, and will be attempting to tether as well.... I used to be damn good at phone modding -gave lots of help and wrote a few tutorials. But I am a middle aged dad now, and haven't been on the scene in quite some time, since work and family life leaves me with little time for my hobbies :/ ...anyhow, I was wondering if someone might be willing to send me/post the links/instructions I need. Isis, did you also flash your phone? I was looking at flashing the qa30 bc I hear the sw is buggy, or at least used to be. Also, in the past I have flashed phones and gotten amazing results like faster performance and better pix and vidz.. I used to use bitpim and edit the hex, flash like crazy... but... I used to have tons of time on my hands to do all the research. Don't want to seem like a bum, lol... just thought I'd ask a fellow qa30 user (who got it right) and the HoFo community to help an old dog learn a new trick. lol...
I sleep with my phone under my pillow...

    Wirelessly posted (MOT-QA30/00.72 UP.Browser/7.2.7.5.619 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

What I did to my qa30 might be considering flashing in a technical sense but I don't think so. I got my msl, the subsity unlock code that Metropcs uses both to prevent changing phone carriers and to disable certain features. Then went into the programing menu #073887* then used Metropcs generic code 587846. From there were lots of categories to choose from and that's when you need your 6 digit msl. That's where I wasted alot of time. Dun isn't in the programing menu or if it is I never found it. Dun has a hidden menu of its own, shared with camera and that's ##feature.
Motorola told me that Metropcs does in fact disable the tethering option though they wouldn't tell me how to enable it.
    Hope that helps,
    Isis

Another tip for teethering for you guys who use windows mobile is to use wap.metropcs.net 3128 port as your proxy in your browser and it will get your internet working just fine.

MetroPCS sucks. I bought an LG Imprint, couldn't tether it. Returned it. Bought a messager 3. Couldn't tether it. Returned it. Bought a Freeform 2. Tethered it successfully. It works. It is about 1/4 as fast as 56k dialup. I ran 3 speed tests each on speakeasy and dslreports. The FASTEST of the 6 showed 19.5kbps. It takes about 8 minutes to load www.google.com. Not a search, just the page. I have full signal strenght, it is just crap.

i've tethered plenty of metro phones. i've never gotten that low on the speed test. i am assuming nothing else is open/running online based when doing the speed test?

You assume correctly. It seems to be intermittent too. I will try signing into Yahoo Messenger for example. I will try 5 times and it will fail, then it will work on the 6th time. Websites do the same thing. I already cancelled metro.

    Hi all,

I've been out of the tether scene with my Moto W385 for a while, and recently had to put it on a new computer. I got it rolling after figuring out that the new password was my MSL, but it only works in Explorer, and with no proxy! FF just gets the old blank pages with no errors routine, and I do get the "proxy not found" error when I config the proxy...I put down the crack pipe, I swear! I'm not complaining, cuz it does work in suck-*** Explorer!

I went to do the Firefox about:config useragent modification, and I did not see the general.useragent.extras.firefox entry to modify like I did before. Does anyone know what the dealio is with that? I looked on my desktop machines FF browsers, and it wasn't on those either, and I never touched the about:config on those computers. No pipe, seriously! (firefox v8.0.1) Thanks!

EDIT: I almost forgot to say I'm on MetroPCS.

The thread that would not die. I love this thread but man, it was old back when I spent MONTHS on it - not being much of a techie then - and figured out finally how to tether Motorola. A great thread but it'll take you down some wrong roads at times. Anyway, everybody I saw whining about what's my MSL, Dude just go to Android White Rabbit and punch in your esn or any other pertinent number and KaChing - you got it. How to enable DUN in a Samsung? There's a couple of good threads nearby that'll tell you. If people still need help with Motorola or LG, Logical, if you need a concise but thorough tutorial for tethering Metropcs then PM me.
Now I've got a question. My Qa30 spends hours a day as a data modem and hours too connecting on its own. Now all of a sudden I can tether no problem but I can't get online with the phone alone. Everything else on the phone works, there's data transmission to my PC but not mobile internet. I don't know if this is tether related or what it is?
    Any ideas anyone?

On your phone, press MENU, then "9", then "#"... use code "587846". Select the bottom option, "DUN". Check "ENABLE".

If DUN isn't in the menu you need to start over and after putting in code push # again and enter this code 8886573982. It will come up with 3 different choices. Use the middle one and once you in use your up button and go through the different commands. Once you see DUN = 1 you need to backspace and make the 1 a 0. save and now your dun is turned on.

Go here www.whiterabbit.org/android/ and type in either your MEID (HEX or DEC) or esn and you'll get your MSL.
Apparently in Samsung you can enable DUN in the programming menu, in Motorola or LG you dial ##feature (##3328873) and enable DUN by entering your MSL.
Does anyone know a similar hidden menu to enable DUN/USB tethering in a Huawei? Metropcs, of course. I've been looking all over w/o success. Anybody?
