So my 6 day old N95 from the Nokia store got a little scratch tonight on the top silver part of the phone near the power button. Is that part replaceable on these?

Now i bought an N95 APAC Sand version and it is tight and hissing sound is gone
I have two MIF n95's, the first had a slight wobble which after following chopsuis lead is perfectly tight, the second one has no wobble what so ever. and what is the high pitched hissing on standby? i certainly havent heard any of that in either of them.

I did ChopSui's mod on my wobbly MIF N95, and it worked great, especially using electrical tape. Here are some detailed photos and instructions of the process:

By the way, don't bother calling Nokia US about this issue, even though I have a US retail version of the N95, their support was useless!

I just wanted to know.. what is the white strip and white guide?

''Locate the white strip on the right side of the slider. ''

Its the only thing confusing me... Also.. im quite ok with just sticking a bit of material underneath the slider.. and I have never opened up a phone before.. would you recommend I do this?

Also.. what screw do I need?

    Thanks!

There are two small strips of white plastic that the slider rests on. You'll know what I mean when you get the slider off. The white guide on the right side of the phone comes off very easily, only the pressure of the slider keeps it on. You want to stick the tape between this white guide and the phone body.

The phone has Torx T-5 screws, so you'll need a Torx T-5 bit to remove them. Don't lose them, not sure where you'd find replacements!

it doesnt take long at all, although i didnt put the piece all the way under like that, i cut a thin strip and ran it vertically, and then an additional piece under the top part as well

I don't recommend it if you don't have any experince. I finally did it just now. What a time! I was so nervous. There are some sensitive stuff in there, that you could damage. I wouldn't do it again now that I know what it is you have to do. OTOH, there's this fantastic reward in the end of it, when you have that wonderfully tight phone for the rest of its lifetime (hopefully)!

Eg. when you screw back the screws, then they don't go in so wonderfully easy. You have to work that thing. And you have to screw the screw so tight (so that it's reasonably screwed in) that you (at least I) get nervous. In the end, I heard some noise that I didn't like then. I still don't like that the electrical tape and the white strip is so tightly packed by the screws. Also, I touched some components I didn't want to touch. It took some time. Also 2, I simply don't like removing and putting the back slate off and on. Although I now have gotten somewhat used to it. Also 3, if you strip (or lose by dropping them) the screws, you're in a lot of trouble, I suppose, since you can't buy other ones.

Thanks DumYellowDog for the best description so far! I also like to thank Chopsu3i and Biggzy! In the end if you do it or not is about how much experience you have and how adventureous (sp?) you are.

On a different note and going back to the luck of the draw with these phones, today I went back to SNtraders and this time I checked a batch of Made by Nokia, malaysian firmware no keystrokes on the keypad and believe it or not they were all firm as rock....

So I picked up another one.... My 6th N95.....

No, I am already taking those.....and no help.

The problem with this phone is that it is too captivating and addicting.... I have always said that I love it, however I can't really sit comfortably with its price point... But today I got it for a really good price, so this one is staying for a while... or until I get bored with it again... Heck, before I stopped buying the N73s, I bought about 7-8 of them, on and off.....lol

I love symbian, what can I say.....
