For those of you who have had a Windows Mobile 5 phone and a Blackberry. What is the difference between the two operating systems? Is the Blackberry as easily customizable as WM5? Are there lots of free programs out there for the Blackberry like WM5(for instance ppcwarez.org). I
I have the XV6700 and was planning on getting the I760 but I thought I would give Blackberry a try. Also, How does text messaging work on a Blackberry? Is it threaded like the Palm Treo? I installed the threaded messaging app on my 6700 and now I won't be able to live without threaded messaging.
ok this might be a stupid question but can anyone order it tomorrow the 14th or only if you have a buisness account? I am starting my own buisness and need to get a blackberry asap and want this device.
Also do you know anything about whether you will need to pay a monthly SIM fee for the global data plan. Can you migrate up and down between the $45 US plan and the $65 Global plan if you only travel internationally once or twice per year?
OK, here's the scoop on the SIM fee. There is none. If you're going to use the phone internationally you need to buy the international support kit. That includes the SIM card and reference material. IIRC it is 39.99, and is completely optional and isn't necessary for domestic use. The only extra fee incurred is if you have the global data plan, and if you don't have the global data plan you're automatically on pay-as-you-go data roaming. No monthly fee for just having the SIM.

Viper Owners aren't allowed to own Blackberries!
Seriously, the BB is not very customizable...it just does what is supposed to do 99.9999% of the time, and it does it well. They are becoming a bit more feature-rich....pics, media, etc. No, the aftermarket software available for a BB is nothing like the WM selection.
It depends on what phones you're swapping. If the phones support the same type of plans (data, etc.) you can swap the ESNs online. If you were swapping from a Treo or a Q to a Blackberry, it's less likely since the BB has a different data plan than the other phones.
According to a rep that I spoke with (so therefore, we can't be sure) if you attempt to do the switch online before you call, they won't charge you. I'll be putting that to the test soon. There's no doubt that VZW's online ESN switcher has a lot more "gotchas" than simply swapping a SIM card.
I can confirm it. If you say it couldn't be done online, they won't charge you.

VZW_CSR, thanks for getting back to us with the info on the SIM card. Good to know that we will not incur additional charges. Any word on if you can switch up and down between US unlimited data, and International unlimited data without some sort of fee?
