Correct. But, they should have at least given us this option. According to your logic - which I agree with - their economic downside would be minimal.

Seems it would be crazy not to take advantage of the GPS chip. I would pay for VZNAV or whatever. I can't understand why GPS is not listed as a feature of the device in the press release. The 8800 has a GPS chip. did they take it out to make room for the GSM modem?

Lame that the Sprint version is SIM unlocked and the Verizon isn't.

That's probably a deal breaker for me.

The Global BlackBerry Data for me is the #1 reason I'll give up my 8703e & get the 8830 from Verizon as I -

    1. Need a North America (US & Canada) Voice Plan
    2. Need instant (push) Global data access for my e-mails etc. without having to rely on a laptop, which stays plugged in my hotel/conference room.

Not having global voice at a cheaper rate does not bother me, as my voice calls while outside North America are minimal - family calls me at my hotel & if it's an emergency, then I sure don't want folks to mess with multiple phone numbers.

    Here's my question though -
If my regular old 8703e is optioned with the Global BlackBerry Data plan, will I be able to access BlackBerry DATA in GSM areas of Europe/Asia (even though I cannot access voice)?

No because there is no GSM radio in a Verizon BB 8703.

So BlackBerry data runs off GSM and/or CDMA transmitted from cell towers?

The 8703 is CDMA only... which is why it can't be used "globally" now, and never can be... Europe, for example, is GSM/GPRS only.

The 8830 gets around this by incorporating BOTH CDMA and GSM/GPRS... like the Moto A840 (Verizon's "World phone") did...

Doesn't make much sense to me either. Telenav is getting great reviews and it would probably be quite useful. Just hope that I'm wrong about GPS being disabled but rumors like this popping up leads me to believe that I shouldn't keep my hopes up.

And the sad part is, since the company has reworked out a deal with Verizon Wireless, it'll be overall cheaper for me to stay than to port out to have "full featured" Blackberries.

$69 will be for Global Data Plan without Voice...one gets a $5 discount with a monthly Voice Plan.

Do you have to get the 70 dollar international plan? or can you get the national plan for 45?

you forget that MOST cell phone users are NOT hofo users. most will call their service provider and say "I'm going to Europe and I want to use my phone. What do I need to do?" The service provider is not going to say "Oh, well here's the unlock code for your phone, go give money to someone else." they're going to their best to get the customer on a plan that ensures that the money comes back to them. this is how TMO and ATT work and it's the exact same thing verizon is doing. Oh, and I'd be willing to be that even though the sprint one is unlocked most sprint users will go through sprint when going abroad vs. the prepaid sim route.

I almost ported over from Cingular and im glad I waited... I can hold out 2 more weeks for this device.

Main reason I am porting, I am sick and tired of walking through the office and my GSM signal setting off every electronic device with that annoying buzzzzzzzing sound.

Do you think this device will do that as well, since it is GSM "capable" ??
