verizon QCP files to WAV solution

I have been working hard on trying to figure this out....

How to get a call recording file from your cell phone (in my case the vx9900) to a wav file or MP3......

the solution in the past has been to download purevoice and play the files there... however the purevoice program cannot read the EVRC codec that the vx9900 (as well as other phones I presume) encode......

Here is the error when you try to play the file.....
"Error: could not open file--it is either corrupt, uses an unsupported format, or is not a multimedia file at all (could not render file using DirectShow)."

Here is the solution..... email the file to yourself..... FROM THE PHONE

Verizon automatically converts the file to WAV for you! A WAV file is attached to the email!

obviously it costs 25 cents... but it works!

    Angry bummer dude.....

    some disappointment though.......

    1. it only records one side of the conversation... the called party......

    2. Apparently there is a max file size of 300kb.......

This process does not work with EVRC encoded files.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but has anyone figured this out yet? I've got an LG VX9100 (env2) and would really like to be able to pull some recorded phone calls off my phone and listen to them on something other than the phone itself. Listening to it on the phone doesn't allow for ffwd or rwding....

Not even mailing it to yourself will work anymore, VZW doesn't convert it like it used to. I just gave up as I couldn't find anything that would work.

In most places, Verizon towers are programmed to make EVRC connections only. Their setting overrides the one on your phone.

If you want it for free you can use Mediacoder to transcode pretty much any audio or video format to any other audio or video format after you copy the .qcp (which I'm assuming is a QCELP compressed file)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QCELP

Mediacoder is windows freeware and according to their website will work fully on linux through wine, and partially on a Mac through wine:
