I have an iPhone with the $30 "Data Plan for iPhone". I want to tether. I understand that I'll switch to the $25 "DataPro 2 GB for iPhone" then add $20 for the ability to tether and get another 2 GB of data for a total of 4 GB. I also understand that I'll never be able to return to the $30 unlimited plan once removed. OK, no problem.
But, my email account is on a hosted Exchange server at Go Daddy and I pay $9.95 a month to have the what guys who work for big companies have. I asked about what the difference was with the "Enterprise" plans as was told that was for people using "business" email. After holding for a few minutes the guy came back and said that my Go Daddy hosted Exchange account wouldn't even work with the regular plan. WTF?
I understand that Blackberry Enterprise Server users might truly be blocked since BES uses different ports, whereas Exchange ActiveSync uses standard http and https ports.
Would I be OK with the plans as I described above for $45 total and be able to use a hosted Exchange account?
I don't get the point of the Enterprise plans if you're not a Blackberry Enterprise (BES) user.

If Exchange is being used then any data plan should do (unless AT&T is blocking the default http and https).
Enterprise/BES plans are usually for people who connect to company servers to download/snyc email, contacts, appointments/reminders etc.. off of company servers. If you don't care to or need to download/snyc all your work stuff on to your device or your company doesn't even support Enterprise/BES then you don't need Enterprise/BES plans.
The company has to run Enterprise/BES software on their end and make the connections to the servers to get all this stuff working and the end user (you) need a compatible device and Enterprise/BES plan on the account.
I found some info on ACM and the option velocity usb modem, and someone even states about halfway back that ACM blocks wap.cingular. Is there a way to get around that? I just bought one and I want to swap my sim card into it but obviously don't want to get busted using isp.cingular.
Addition: I see that everyone recommends not using connection manager because of it making you use isp.cingular, so what software do you use? Is there just a default procedure that can be used in Windows to change it to wap.cingular without the connection manager, or am I going to need to get a different piece of software?

I have an iPhone 3G with the original unlimited data plan for work.
Personally, I have a Dell Streak 7 from T-Mobile. I bought it without a contract, and do not have a data plan on it. I requested an unlock code for it from Dell and they sent it to me. So I swapped my iPhone SIM into the Dell Streak 7 and fired it up. It connected to AT&T 4G network and had data access. I only did that so the Dell would prompt me for the unlock code. Then I powered it off and put the SIM card back in my iPhone.
My questions are: will I get in trouble with AT&T for doing that? (The iPhone is a work phone and I don't want to get into trouble at work either.)
Could I switch the SIM card to the Dell occasionally - for light data use - without getting in trouble?

Droid in one pocket. iPhone in the other. One is $30 a month. The other is free. It just doesn't get any better than this.
There have been reports in these forums that the some unbranded by AT&T Dell devices has prompted AT&T to send the warning text that a data plan is needed. There is a special situation with tablets. They are not smartphones and could cause you to lost your unlimited data plan if AT&T adds the appropriate data plan to a tablet. You did not actually have to connect to AT&T to get a warning for an unlock code. Unlocking is a local issue between the device and the SIM card and the carrier network does not have to be involved.
If the bills for the iPhone are paid by your employer, you might not be informed directly of a change in data plans. You should never mix your personal wireless phone use with your employer provided wireless service unless your employer specifically allows it.
So, if I understand you correctly, if I didn't get a text message warning, then I should be OK - as far as my little switcharoo this morning. And that I shouldn't switch them again, else AT&T will switch my account to a tablet data plan instead of an iPhone data plan.
What I was saying is that your employer might get the notice if they are managing the account. Check with them periodically in case you have been switched to a tiered data plan.
I have a unlimted data plan with the iPhone 4, being that AT&T is cracking down people who tether data, which applications is best for hiding usage, MyWii or PDANET.
My contract is up and I have an iPhone 4 (been with iphone since its debut) I want to switch to the Infuse (tired of IOS). I have unlimited data $30/month. I want to keep it and just switch the phone on the upgrade price. However ATT sells it for $199 and all other places sell it for $149 but do not offer the SmartPhone Personal Plan which would keep my $30 unlimited data plan. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get the phone at a cheaper price but keep unlimited data plan? I am the primary on a 2 line family talk plan.
Wal-Mart store have it for $148.88, just get them to call AT&T and they will swap you to the unlimited smartphone data plan. You can keep unlimited data as long as you want, you just cant get it back if you ever remove it. Radio Shack can do it too, I've did more than once. I'm sort of a phone junkie. Your iPhone data plan will work fine with the Infuse, just leave it on there and have them activate a new SIM card. I use my micro-sim in my DELL Streak, you just have to be careful and line up the contacts correctly. Hope this helps.

Corporate store. Yes, they are more expensive, but yes, they have the best service, and yes they can actually do stuff, unlike the authorized resellers.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry. Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T. If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.
I have had the MEW1 (mediaworks w/ unlimited internet, 1500 text, 200 MMS) for about 6 years now. First on my 6230, then on my 8525, now on my Tilt 2. I am eligible for upgrade.
Is there a way to upgrade to the HTC Inspire ($99) and keep my plan?
My phone is 6 years old. I want a smartphone, but don't want a data plan. The phone will have wifi and that is good enough for me. Is it mandatory that my new smartphone have a data plan?
