Hi. I had a question, that I haven't been able to find an answer to, after a few searches...
I just got a Nokia 6126, with Cingular, with pay per usage services, no monthly media packages, as I won't use it much.
I do however, have a Dial-up ISP account, and I was wondering if there is a way to use my Bluetooth 6126, with my bluetooth Axim X50v PDA, to access the internet with the PDA.
Basically I'm looking to use the 6126 as a modem for my PDA, but not using wap.cingular (That works, I've tried - but that costs, per Kb, right??)
I've setup the connection on the PDA, and it dials my ISP's access number fine, but shortly after it dials, it beeps at me, and says "Error in connection"
Any help please? Thanks!

It's called MediaMax. Check Cingular.com or call 611.
I DON'T HAVE A SIGNATURE....SORRY
Not possible because no matter what you are going through cingulars cellular network.Originally Posted by jam269
OK, thanks for the reply... Isn't that really because CSD is disabled? Can it be enabled? Along the same note, is it possible to use the phone as a fax?
With my old Verizon V710, I was able to, and it came in handy once or twice... Thanks.
CSD is no longer available, and is not enabled by default. It cannot be enabled on any accounts (probably because it's very wasteful of spectrum) except old ones which have the feature grandfathered in. You would not want to use CSD anyway. Think about what 9.6 kbps means: a best case scenario transfer rate of 4.32 megabytes per hour. Not sure about using the phone as a fax, but I doubt it. Even if you could send, you couldn't receive. Find a landline for that.Originally Posted by jam269
Here's what you can do. Sign up for an unlimited data plan like the Media Max 200 ($19.99). This will allow you to use your phone as a Bluetooth modem. It will operate on the GPRS/EDGE network. You should then be able to tether devices like your Axim X50v PDA to it, and tell them to dial *99# to access the net. Make sure you use the wap.cingular access point and not isp.cingular and don't use excessive amounts of data as you're technically not supposed to be tethering on Media Max plans (search the forum for more info). You may just find that Media Max has more uses than you thought it did, like checking sports scores or getting real time freeway speeds on Google Maps Mobile.
What is the difference between "MEdiaNet" "Multimedia" and "Proxyless" access points in my N75? The only difference I can see is that the "multimedia" access point has a different "homepage" set. Is there any reason not to delete two of these?
I am trying to get my work email to push to my Blackjack. I assume that I can use either the Smartphone Connect Unlimited or the Media Max 200, and I do not have to get the PDA connect. Is this right?
If it is, does one of those have an advantage over the other?
Thanks

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have smartphone connect and I think it came with the blackjack since I got it as an update for my phone. I see BM ME NET MAIL UNL on my features online. Is this the smartphone connect? Also, what is the difference between unlimited smartphone connect and Media Max packages for data besides the Text Messaging? Thanks in advance for the help,
Element
MediaNet and Proxyless are identical except that Proxyless does not go through Cingular's proxy (wireless.cingular.com). This is sometimes necessary to get some streaming multimedia to work correctly. The Multimedia connection is for MMS (picture messages).Originally Posted by pvn

I have a similar question. I am considering porting over from my current carrier but it looks like it would be considerably more expensive to do so and maintain my current level of service (three lines, one a Smartphone with full data and pop e-mail, etc.; the other two regular phones with only text messaging and occasional WAP usage), ESPECIALLY if my smartphone can only be paired with a data plan on an individual line (even if one can get away with the $20 data rather than signing up for the $35 plan Cingular says is required for a phone like a Blackjack), which seems to be the case as far as I can tell from trying to set it up through the Cingular website. Maybe I'm just missing something?Originally Posted by MittenedNinja
Also, how restricted is Cingular/ATT's wap service? Can one go to any WAP site by typing it into the broswer, or is it a walled garden that only allows access to the carrier's WAP sites? This makes a huge difference to me.

FYI for blackjack purchasers hoping to use MM 200 for $20 a month...
I have a samsung 807 I've been using for medianet since last October when I got it, search on google, get the weather and sports scores, etc. on the $9.99 access plan.
I recently was put in the premier program so I upgraded to a blackjack and right after ordering the phone I upgraded my plan to the MM200 for $19.99 thinking that if I did that before the BJ showed up I might be able to sneak by, wrong!
Within minutes of my order processing I recieved an e-mail saying my plan was changed for me back down to the $9.99 plan I had before with no explanation. My phone is due to show up today, I was planning on just throwing my sim card in it and start using it but I may try changing the plan to MM200 again tomorrow.
I am not sure if it changed it because they knew I had ordered the BJ and they will require me to go to a $40 data plan when I start using it or if they downgraded because my current phone can't use the data plan.
Leave me feedback here...

I have been reading on HoFo about tethering on unlimited MEdia Net plans. There have been a lot of threads about this but none of them answer this question: What does it take to get busted?
no one knows. it just depends if check and see yours or not.
