No, the difference is that wap.cingular gives you a private IP that's behind a NAT, while isp.cingular gives you a public IP. Don't use isp.cingular on Media Max. You're not supposed to be able to, but if you can you may get charged.
Ahhhh, ok. If you're behind a NAT though using wap.cingular, wouldn't that impede your connection speed? I don't remember my networking classes from college very well, but it sounds to me that NAT usually brings about a hit in performance. However, would the consumer even see this hit due to the (usually) low processing capabilities of the phone?

No, NAT has nothing to do with connection speed. It only breaks certain applications that need a direct host-to-host connection and won't work through NAT because NAT doesn't give you direct access to the machine's ports from the outside. The most common ones are certain types of VPNs which is why the plans that can use isp.cingular are targeted toward business users. If you're just doing web browsing, checking email, using SSH, etc., you're fine on wap.cingular

I'm going to upgrade my phone to a BB 8800 and I can't make sense of the Blackberry plans. There are 4 or 5 different options with different prices, but the descriptions all sound the same. I want push email from 4 accounts that I need access to frequently, and I will occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a week) surf the web using the BB html browser.
Specifically what is the difference between the Blackberry Unlimited, and the Blackberry ISP? What options do I need to choose if I want Blackberry push email, unlimited internet access, & 1000 text messages a month?
The main thing you need to know to decide is whether you are accessing personal accounts or your corporate server. Sounds like your four accounts would be personal so go for the Blacberry Personal Connect Unlimited + Messaging package. I think that they have something like a BB Personal Max Plan now.
As for the BB Unlimited vs BB ISP. I don't remember seeing that plan when I was working there, but I'm guessing that a lot of corporate servers do not allow you to connect unless you have a highly secure connection.
Simple question./ i have me Sync a707 tethered to my Laptop, however i set my max connection speed to 912600 or whatever the max is, and i only can connect at 230.4 kbos max. Whats wrong here? I am connecting through USB cable. Why can't i connect at a higher KBPS ? I am NOT in a 3G area but EDGE is here.
Well this i DO know the answer to. yes you still get 3G speeds if you don't already know by now. Just make sure u are using SOME sort of unlimited medianet plan. I also have the max 200 bundle. Ive probably downloaded about 1500 mbs since i began tethering a few weeks ago. Im still not kicked. Amazing eh.
Yes. If you have a 3G capable phone and are in a 3G area, you are golden for 3G. Matter of fact the logo should show up on your phone. The 8525 just says 3G and the Blackjack has the fireball symbol.

As far as I can tell, dude, you are getting a REALLY solid edge connection. If I remember my system speeds correctly I wouldn't count on getting much better until 3G gets to your area.
Plus the settings in your phone are just possible speeds. The real speed up to that setting is network dependent. You can't rock out 3G speeds when you're only in an EDGE area, no matter what your phone is capable of.
I can only set you at ease that higher speed phones often have more EDGE slots. Good luck getting 3G in your area this year.

I have signed up for the tethering $59.99 plan and have had not had much success with keeping a connection live for more than a couple minutes. I have tried bluetooth and USB tethering, and have tried all the settings given to me by AT&T, here, and Treo Central with no luck. I have spent about six hours either on the phone or in the AT&T store. I finally noticed that I would have a solid tethering connection when I was at home or at a meeting out of town in Salem, Oregon. When I am in both of those areas I am on the EDGE network rather than UMTS. Last week I spent two hours in an AT&T store on the phone with the data department. They had me hard reset the phone, after which tethering worked great. They determined that my push email was causing the tethering to lose connection, but only when I was in a UMTS area. So their suggestion was to disable the push email-NOT! That's why I bought the Windows Treo. So my other options are to use another phone when I want to tether, find a cheap laptop card and move my SIM card into it when I want to tether, or set my Treo to GSM only in the band selection option when tethering.
Just thought I would pass this along to anyone who want to tether and do push email in a UMTS area. It doesn't work
If I get the Smartphone Unlimited plan for $20, can I use a message program for AIM, get my email, and browse the web? Or would this fall under the PDA connect plan?
As with these plans, I always go for the cheapest unlimited, then I put the SIM in my PC Card and I go surfin'. ISP connect has always been in my plan despite the fact that I actually don't have LaptopConnect. And WAP is faster than ISP (In other word, the regular phone plan speed is faster than the Laptop/PDA Connect plan speeds). I've used gigabytes of data every month. AT&T/Cingular didn't care and still doesn't.

im using a razr v3xx
You can't let it charge you using minutes. Either its a data connection or a data call (modem), it is metered by KBs.
