Dash is a smartphone, Just like the BlackJack. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Smartphone Connect and Max will work fine as well the Media Max Packages.
Doesn't make any difference what anyone else say, Cingular classifies it as a PDA and says you need PDA Connect. What you decide to go with is another issue entirely.
I am currently using an Unlocked Dash on Cingular with absolutly NO ISSUES. I have the Media Max 200 plan. The only thing you would have to do is put in all the cingular data settings . After that its no problems. Cingulars system recognized my dash as a Treo 600 on their system. But Media Max 200 ($19.99) works great.. Hope this helps..

I use the Media Max 200 bundle ($19.99) on my 8125 with HEAVY internet usage since Oct 06.. And I haven't been warned, threatened or scolded yet. So I am just gonna say "yes it works" but I can't say its say you will be one of the many many lucky ones to get away with it for so long.
im currently using my nokia 6131 with the unlimited startphone access ($19.99) plan. im not able to check my monthly data usage right now but ill check that later as well. i use opera mini a few times a day to check a few websites when im not near a computer and i use the phones built in browser to check email a few times daily too. most of the time, i will use opera to send or reply to messages on myspace or web forums, nothing too extensive and usually for only 5-10 mins at a time. im going to get a laptop to tether to (i know its not the right plan), via bluetooth. when i tether, it would most likely be to connect for brief periods of time to do the same things as above and possibly have conversations over AIM for awhile. my questions are as follows....
1.) roughly how much data would i accumulate a month by using my phone as described above, minus the tethering part (just opera and yahoo on a daily, 5 times or so a day for about 5-10 mins at a time?
2.) how much more or less would be connecting via tethering to a laptop just to use AIM for lets say 1 hour a day, no web browsing?
3.) whats the best way to tether, downloading and using the cingular connection program offered on their website or just using nokia pc suite and setting it up as a modem.
4.) since im using the smartphone connect plan, what would i have to use if i needed to set it up, the wap.cingular.com or the isp.cingular one?
thanks for the help...i was searching most of the night and still will continue to. ive read alot about the tethering process and with all of the cingular data setups, its just so confusing.
and on another note, i checked my GPRS log and for the last year since this phone was new (ive never reset the data counter) all of my total useages were the following....
recieved data: 53,582,064 B
sent data 10,198,732 B
those are bytes right??? 1024 byte in 1 kB and 1024 kB in one mB right? someone put them into MB for me just so im sure??? basically if im doing the math right, thats roughly 63 MB for the year?? hahaha thanks
Yes, the math is more or less on the right track.
You can use WAP.CINGULAR to tether. I use the Nokia PC Suite to connect via Bluetooth. No need to install the Cingular software.
I would bet you will use much more data when tethering. Remember that in a computer we load more software that is "internet aware" such as software updaters, email programs, media players, widgets, Windows Update, etc. that connect to the Internet on a regular basis and download data in the background. In addition, even your Instant Messenger does things of its own in the background, such as downloading content that displays on the messenger window. I'm sure you've seen small ads that play on the messengers. Plus, the full versions of the web browser pull much more data than Opera Mini to render a page.
Yes, you can tether, but just keep an eye on the data counter online, and don't use tethering to replace your cable or DSL line. A couple-hundred MB per month is easy to go over when tethering several times a month.

I would imagine that you would in the safe zone if you coughed up at least $59.99 for their data connect plans and used it as a replacement for cable/DSL lines.
Even if I paid for the unlimited Laptop Connect plan, I wouldn't use it as a replacement for a Cable/DSL line. Wireless 3G is not as fast or as reliable as a good cable/DSL/Fios line. Plus Laptop Connect is more expensive.

Can I buy a BlackJack and add SmartPhone connect online or will this not work?
I went to a corp store today and they said I HAD to get PDA connect for $40, even if I didn't want any dataplan at all.
Since I have a 3G phone (Samsung ZX-20), I assume that I could add laptop connect data plan for a month to 'test' it (when 3G becomes available in the north end of Los Angeles), and remove it a month later. If I'm only going to test it, would I be able to try signing up on the Media plan and have it still work ?
AT&T..3G on 850MHz + 1900MHz in SoCal... its about F'ing time!
thanks bobolito, i will just use it when im on the road or cant get to a regular connection when im at work for a few minutes of chatting, thats all. i posted a new message in the cingular forums regarding my tether, i got it to work. i wont be charged any extra though right using GPRS through the cingular connection manager right?

Tethering will work regardless what plan you're on.
Officially, you're not suppose to and pay at the laptopconnect rate.
The same goes for PDAs and Smartphones, pay for the appropriate data plan for such devices.

Be careful with the Cingular Connection Manager, I haven't used it in over a year, so I'm not sure the latest version is the same, but it used to default to the isp.cingular apn. I messed with it alittle got a nasty surprise on my next bill. I called CS and played dumb, and they removed the charges. I haven't touched it since, use Nokia PC Suite and be safe.
I have a 3125 with the Smartphone Connect Unlimited $19.99 plan. I've tethered the phone a few times (when in airports or on trains and have my laptop with me but no free wifi to be had).
The user manual has a section on how to set up a connection in Windows on the laptop with no additional software. It said to use ISP@CINGULARGPRS.com as the username, and it works fine for me. As far as I can tell, I haven't had any additional charges.
Sooo what is the consensus, with a BlackJack can you simply use the media max 200 plan? Does any setting in the BlackJack need to be changed in order to avoid ppy charges?
I currently have the Dataconnect plan.. should I be using wap.cingular or isp.cingular? Also, all of the sudden my V3xx stopped connecting via tethering.. anything changed recently? TIA
