    Samsung I760

So I saw one of these today. A switch tech had one and I played it with. This thing is solid. Fast as hell, nice and compact, and the construction feels great. I can't wait till this comes out since I will buy it in a heartbeat. Looks like I won't be getting the 8830 anyways, I'm going to wait for this one, its worth it.

Is it for Verizon? Can you confirm WM6 OS? Did you get anything from him about the release date? Thanks!

Ah, but when? I would love for this to come out before the xv6800 to make my decision easy. I'm getting impatient (actually I've been impatient for months).

    Unofficial Date

I just left a Verizon store (needed to return a bluetooth headset) where I spoke with a rep who actually seemed to have a clue.
Here is the info he provided:

The I760 is scheduled to be released June 11, 2007. The plan was to release it exactly one week after the launch of the IPhone (which was originally scheduled for a June 4th release).

However, now that Apple has pushed back its IPhone release date, the rep stated he was unsure whether Verizon's plans would remain unchanged for the I760 or whether they would hold off on their release as well.

Unfortunately I can't vouch for the validity of any of this information, I'm merely passing on what was told to me.

    I hope this helps!

    Peace

Thanks for the update. It seems like they should stick with the initial date. Not that this is an iPhone competitor, but it might lure some people in.

You're right, the Iphone is no competition for the I760.

I had forgotten if this information was released but did anyone ever see a retail price for this thing or about how much it will go for.

Plan on selling my 700wx (which is in mint condition) and getting one of these samsungs.

One thing that does bug me is you have to slide out the keyboard. I like the treo for that reason that the keyboard is located right in front of you.

    Will be an interesting comparison:

iPhone vs WM6 (akin to OS X Leopard vs Windows Vista).

My take: No contest but only time will tell!
These are my mobile phone principles. If you don't like them, I have others.

Without logic, reason is useless. With it, you can win arguments and alienate multitudes.

OS X is about the only appealing to me on the iPhone.
The popularity of the iPhone is simply due to the fact that the compiled technology already available into a nice looking device and put an 'I' in front of it.
They're just getting kids and uninformed people that think that touchscreens and large hard drives are so cool and innovative and that the iPhone is the only thing offering that. I know few people that actually recognize that the iPhone isn't that amazing but they want it for the things that actually make sense. I.E. Multi-Touch, OS X, Apple computer synchronization, ability to work well with all their other iTunes stuff, etc.
Basically, you could take a regular couch and called it iSofa and it would have people flocking to it.

But at least Verizon realizes it and is marketing this thing well. They're hoping it catches peoples' attention and they realize "Hey, other phones have touchscreens, are small, and look good."

The Iphone lacks 3G speeds and a keyboard. I'm not sure those deficiencies can make up for whatever advantages OSX has over WM6 but I guess time will tell.
