To all, especially you newer owners, it's been 4 months now and I still love this phone. I have found Total Commander to be a must have program, as well as Skyfire. Opera mini is good too with the newer Esmertec java emulator that loads onto memoriy cards. Searched around for anybody cooking new ROMs, like for WinMo6.5, but it is apparently much harder to do with Samsung vs HTC phones.
Anybody checking this thread anymore? Any new treasures for this old workhorse?
they need to stop selling this phone and release an updated one.
its been almost 2 years since this phone was released
They have stopped sell it, at least it hasn't been available through Verizon's online store for over a month.
But if I could get a second one I would.
It may be old compared to what is out there today, but if you are coming from a "dumb" phone, then the i760 is truly amazing.
It runs the current WinMo 6.1 Professional, has WiFi, a keyboard and doesn't require a Data plan.
Yep I need to check again and see if I can get a second one!
I've loved my i760, until recently. I had to get a replacement, and it wouldn't come out of "sleep mode" a lot of times, so I got another replacement... same problem... now I have a BB Storm, which I will probably return, since I don't like it much, but I really miss my Sammy. If it would work right again, I'd go back, but I've read that it had to do with the WinMo upgrade. Anybody know if that's true ?
Is it possible to turn off the EVDO on the i760, and if so can somebody explain how it's done or point to a link. I searched the thread but didn't find anything.
When I am at work, I am surrounded by cement walls and the signal goes in and out, causing the battery to drain while it searches for the signal. I have a data block and don't really need EVDO.
I'm wondering this too. i got one off ebay and plan to activate on PP, and want to ensure I dont rack up data charges.
Does anyone know where I can get this phone? Verizon/BB/Walmart?
It is no longer for sale at Verizon stores or online, but during a recent call to CS, a rep found a few still available BUT at full retail "$".
The best idea will be finding a used one on the Internet... like ebay, craiglist, etc. but buyer beware, this was a much loved phone by owners. It will either be WELL used or not worth the price.
BTW it is over 2 years old now and all my searching revealed that nobody was able to cook a single ROM for this phone, be it modified 6.1 or 6.5. It is what it is! A great "stock" WinMo 6.1 phone with WiFi and a keyboard...
and it is still my favorite phone.
but I'm sure a few hundred dollars could change my mind.
SO... there you have it well loved and not worth the price.
I have one where the screen is broken (it took a fall). Haven't bothered to activate it on any of my lines and trade it in with Assurion. And since I am getting a TP2 on Friday, likely won't mess with it anytime soon. Are they still sending refurbs out from Assurion?
After a year with the Omnia, I came back to the i760. I bought a really good one and a so so one off eBay. One is a spare should I need the screen or such.
It feels llike a real phone should feel, the slide out keyboard is perfect for what I need it for and God Bless WiFi; no data plan needed. I probably will use it until it rolls over and dies.
by the say, I resurected my old Dell Axim X51v and use it with Garmin so I killed many birds with two old standby's.
I tried to activate this phone online and they were going to hit me with a $44 a month data plan.
So I canceled. If this is the case I will get rid of the phone and just stay with my old VX8100.
