My NE2 was up in Feb and I have been patiently waiting for i760 since then. My fallbck option, in the event that I don't get a i760, was going to be the LG VX8700. Now that VX8700 is available for FREE with NE2, a special promotion until 7/31, I don't know if I should wait for the i760 any longer or just go get the VX8700.

Well, do you want/need a PDA or just a regular phone?
Sorry for the off topic post... The constant refreshing of multiple websites looking for updates has frayed my nerves
To get back on topic, does anyone have any insight into pricing at this point?
There lots and lots of more rumors flying around that the i760 is going to be marketed to Teenagers (Business Users will buy it whether its marketed to them or not). This would make since they are releasing it mid-August (perfect time for back to school sales). If this is true, I could see the price being really reasonable ($299 w/ 2 year and $500 retail).
Now if they want (and they can since it is old technology), they could really stick it to AT&T and the iPhone by making it $199 w/ a 2 year.
Right now VZW is looking at AT&T and realizing how many new customers they missed out on because of the iPhone. They are by no means desperate right now since everybody knows they still have the best network. However, they do need to respond to AT&T and the iPhone soon.
I don't think us hardcore PDA users have much to worry about though if they market it to teenagers. The only thing VZW is doing is adding GIN to the i760. I personally wouldn't mind having navigator on it and i know my gf wants to download ringtones whenever she feels the need to. Verizon has the business users still locked down, VZW are in desperate need though to get the "cool factor" back since AT&T and stolen it with the iPhone.
I really, really, really hope this does not happen. I'm a teenager and I have the i730 because I am a phone expert, and I know how to use it to its full potential. I have push email through Exchange, I have a PTT program, and I have a VPN client.
I swear, if PDAs turn into Sidekicks, I may have to give up on phones all together.
I really do not think the phone will be marketed towards teenagers. It may be marketed towards students who are going back to school, but the only problem is that the data plans are still far too expensive a student to possibly afford. The sidekick will be more attractive to a student, because it has similar functionality, and the data plans are not $45 a month! Also, you will never have to worry about not having good quality PDA's, because there is still the demand for them in the business world, which a sidekick like device just wouldnt cover.
I am going to college in the fall and I would really like to pick up one of these new PDA's before I leave, but it doesnt look like that is going to be possible.
I have no problem with knowledgable teenagers having PDAs. Like I said before, I am a teenager, and one of my friends is going to get the 700p and I'm fine with that. He is a very smart person who wants it for graphic design. I just don't like it when stupid people get PDAs because they look cool. Like getting a BlackBerry with no data plan because they want to look cool. That drives me up a wall.
When I say teenagers I mean "High School and College Students."
Now while not all of these people know the in's and out's of VZW's data plans, I know that when I go back to college this year, I am getting a data block on my phone since the entire campus is littered with free wifi.
And just as a reminder, the same people that you are referring to that do not want to spend $45 on a data plan are the same people right now that are spending $600 to get locked into a two year contract with a provider that is notorious for poor coverage. I don't think these same teenagers would have a problem paying $45 a month for a phone w/ a 2 year contract when the phone itself only costs $199 or $299.

I'm not sure if this works on the new firmware version of the i760, but I use Quick2Net on my i730. It's free and it just uses your minutes, but it's data access for when you're not on campus and want data access.
Like I said, it only works on certain firmware versions of certain phones (not sure why; I know smartphones and Treos won't work with it).
But here's the info:
Number to dial: #7772
Username: qnc
Password: qnc
Domain: *leave it blank*
Just make a new connection. This works with the data block (which I recommend getting) since it goes over the phone line.
Yeah, wth...why even post this here? Not only is it not the i760, it's not even VZW.
just to show you how f**** slow vzw is to release phones (even last generation ones).
at&t has the 8525, and is planning on releasing the kaiser within the next month, and sprint already has the mogul.
vzw has the i760 and the 6800 lined up, and they can't even release one of them. so you tell me, wtf......

Hey, aren't you one of my MySpace friends from Phone Scoop? I recognize your handle.

Wait wait wait...Blackberrys make you look cool now? Damn, I guess teenagers have changed a lot in the last 8 years.

I see your point there, especially since $299 and $45 per month looks more appealing up front than $599 up front plus whatever for data.
I am thinking about blocking data, but then I wont be able to receive pix messages. Will I still be able to receive texts? Also, the campus wifi is awesome but it causes a problem with battery life, as most of the phones that currently have wifi experience incredible reductions in battery life when the wifi is enabled. Also, getting the first 2.5 months of data free ($100 off when signing up for a new data plan) almost makes it worth it. I think I will probably end up getting the data and then canceling it as soon as I can if I dont end up using it very much, and the WiFi works well.
