Ok, probably a noob here, but what exactly does "rolling change" mean?

Bah, scratch that, read it in the 6800 thread.

What bothers me now is that the 6800 is listed as upgradable to Rev A, and the i760 does not...does that mean it already has it or no forseeable upgrade

It's always been rumored that the i760 doesn't have Rev A.

Nope. However, one person in the know on PDAPH has hinted that in the past, some phones have been sent to a "sweat shop" for a last minute chip upgrade. Although I don't see how that would be possible in this case since the chip is a radio and any change would require FCC approval.

Yeah, the i760 will not have Rev. A. Unfortunately. We will be stuck with the xv6800 for rev A PPCs for a good long while. I personally am more concerned with the 64mb RAM that is in both these devices.

Thank god my employee plan doesnt really include a contract

I have been waiting for the i760 for the past few months now. I have some questions that I thought I'd ask now. If and when the i760 comes out, I am planning to get it without the data plan. I am assuming that is possible. Am I wrong?

If I am not getting Verizon's data plan and using my own wi-fi, then does it matter whether the phone is Rev A or Rev 0? Would I not get the same speed on my wi-fi network regardless of the Rev ?

i'm in the same shoes as you. i'm planning on getting the i760 w/o the data plan myself. YES you CAN get it w/o a REAL data plan. you can just have data block all together. As for Rev 0 or A, it doesn't matter. your speed will depend on how fast your network is.

me three - i am actually hoping it *doesn't* come out with REV A. it would just mean Verizon could charge more for the handset.

Mobile data is too expensive for me, period, so I will be getting the data block and using the PDA and phone features. I'm not even sure I would use the WiFi, but since it has it i might play around with it. I think this has been touched on else where, but with the data block you will lose some functionality but not be charged for any data (as opposed to the pay as you go plan). Verizon can't charge you for using the WiFi functionality, and your connection speed on WiFi would, as the previous poster noted, be as fast as your WiFi connection is.

I am attracted to the slim design, slide out key board, large screen, and Windows calendar and address book. The extra connectivity options beyond that are just not useful for me.

the only main functionality i will miss w/ the data block is MMS... but i'll try and live without it.
