There are so many threads about release dates.
Is there any OFFICIAL update?
Thanks
Thanos
Regrettably no. The general consensus is end of September, however we have recent rumor of a Labor Day release.
Also I haven't seen it reverberate on this thread yet but in case any of you people missed this, it appears the unofficial Verizon i760 manual was released by dangerous from pdaphonehome. It was posted here a few pages ago but I didn't see a whole lot of discussion about it. Hate to repeat info but this is of such sheer significance.

Couple of things to note.. appears it will be 802.11b (not g) and can only take microSD up to 2 GB. On the upside Bluetooth looks fairly capable and has a healthy amount of profiles. It notes very well how the front numeric keypad integrates with the phone. Charger/USB is still proprietary but different in design from the i730. In fact, I used to have a Samsung flip phone and I swear the charger for the i760 looks the same..

WUT? This thing shows control of the External GPS on page 81. IF this is true, does that mean we could integrate GPS software with it????

This is the same GPS Settings applet other WM5 devices have (including the SCH-i730). Unless I misunderstand what you are asking, folks have been integrating GPS software with their PPC phones for several years.

Actually now a poster over there who had tested the phone has posted that it does include 802.11b and 802.11g, and can support 4 GB cards.
I have a question that I'm sure many of you here could answer for me.
This will be my first PDA phone. I plan to set things up so that I can receive e-mail on this phone, while still leaving my messages on the e-mail server. In other words, my normal e-mail procedures for receiving and dealing with mail via my home computers should be unaffected, in that all the e-mail will still get there. (I'm not planning on syncing.) But reading the manual causes me to think that to receive copies of the e-mail on the PDA, I will have to force a connection to check for mail. Am I missing something? Is there really no way to have the PDA phone, which will, of course, have a data plan, just check for new mail every 5 minutes, without any action from me, and alert me when there is new mail?
I would hope there is a way to do this, but if so, it was not clear in the manual. The info that worried me is on page 74 of the manual.
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

Just because you will not be syncing for email purposes...does not mean that you should never sync...That is how all of your info gets backed up...Contacts, calendar entries, etc.
As far as mail...I can't say for sure since i haven't played with any of those new devices, but on my 700wx you can specify what time interval to check for mail. Problem is for some reason once it connects to the network and downloads messages it does not disconnect which drains the battery, so I just force the connection when needed. This may be a bug that has a fix, but I have not bothered with it.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I may sync for the reasons you suggest above. I was just referring to syncing for purposes of retrieving e-mail, and to clarify how I would be using the device with respect to e-mail.
I am new to PDA's, but is there a monthly charge associated with the syncing service? And, I am trying to avoid getting a data plan and just using wifi, so is it possible to sync over wifi?

syncing just referes to connecting to the computer and updating/backing up contacts, calendar entries...etc...

The best way to get your email is by using VZW Wireless Sync software. WS checks your email server for new email every 15 minutes. If there's new email on your server, it grabs it and pushes it to your phone (thus establishing a data connection on your phone and using up battery life). If there's no new email on your email server, nothing is pushed to your phone so there's no data connection and no increase in battery usage. This is a much better alternative than scheduling POutlook to check for new email every 5 or 10 minutes since that requires a data connection every time.

No it isn't possible to sync over Wifi anymore.
Windows Mobile 5 and now 6 use a different type of method to sync. I believe WM5 uses some tcp/ip way to connect whereas WM2003se would sync over a serial connection.
Microsoft made it impossible to sync over wifi in the newest version of Activesync claiming it was a "security" risk. You can however sync over bluetooth and infrared.

Just to clarify - Active Sync no longer works over a wi-fi NETWORK; however you could install Verizon's Wireless Sync program and sync using a wi-fi INTERNET connection. I think is is possible to use wireless sync over wifi internet EVEN if you have a data block on the Verizon 1X/EVDO network.
So, if I am understanding this correctly; I can sync my PDA with my home computer if my PDA is connected to wifi that has an internet connection. This means that I can sync it at starbucks, through their wifi, and without a data plan (probably with a data block)? And, just to make clear, there is no cost to the service?
