Retail Price: $519.00
With 2yr agreement: $399.00
With mail-in rebate: $349.00
NE2 drops it to: $249.00
Add the unlimited data plan bonus/rebate and the phone is mine for: $149.00
Now that is by adding it to my primary line. If your adding it to a secondary line the NE2 is only $49.
I didn't think there was any NE2 for a secondary line
What an amazing coincidence that he has a friend at Samsung and Verizon also picked him to give all this advance info to so that he could put all this into his very first post.
its been posted on pdaph a few times that moto has a 30 day exclusive with vzw on the q9m for no other new smartphone/pda releases. so with so much being said about "late september" i would think the 22nd for the web and 29th for stores sounds about on the money for the i760...
First: Note that I said that Samsung has a generally good track record regarding their hardware. Therefore, while it may be true that Samsung screwed the pooch with another device, exceptions to my statement do not negate it.
Samsung has produced 4 PDA phones for Verizon to date (assuming the i783/i830 is essentially 1 model). 1 of those 4 never made it to market. That means Samsung has a 75% success rate in getting their Verizon PDA phones to market or a solid "C" in a high school english course. I suppose a "C" could be considered generally good, but it's not statistically promising.

If you believe that, it must be true.

Go back and count all the VCast, VZNav, GIN, etc phones on VZW's web page - looks to me like they 'mess with" the majority of their devices. It also looks like they get a lot of them to market.
I like a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but the theory has to hold a little water to attract a following.

Why would you restrict your remarks to Samsung's VZW offerings (I wasn't!)? They've made many, many devices that are marketed by many other providers, and I'll stand by my statement that their track record is pretty good!
And I'm still curious about why the one 'failed' VZW model (the i630) wasn't marketed; was it because of a phone problem, or did VZW have some other reason for waving off? It wouldn't make any sense to count that one 'failure' against Samsung, if it really wasn't their fault.

I'm sorry, but I'm apparently missing something. Are you saying that because VZW successfully screwed with other phones that have made it to market, the it's not possible that they're having problems with this phone (the i760)? I suppose that's possible, but the logic you seem to be using is that "since VZW screws with lots of phones and still gets them to market, that is proof that they couldn't have had problems messing with other phones (i.e. the i760)", and that argument definitely doesn't hold water!
But here's my rationale for saying what I've said:
There is at least one historically reliable poster over at PDAPH who was an i760 tester earlier this summer. While abiding by the constraints imposed by his NDA, he reported that the i760 was a solid device, both mechanically and functionally. In fact, he stated that the phone was so good, that he was really excited about it and was bummed when he had to return it. Later, he also reported that VZW had started having problems with the phone after the apparently successful user testing was complete, and that he feared that VZW was having difficulty incorporating their mods. He also expressed his disappointment upon learning that some features were being messed with. Of course, none of this is proof of anything whatsoever; but it is one of the reasons, along with VZW's history of messing with phones (whether they get them to market or not), that leads me to suspect that VZW MAY have encountered difficulty implementing their 'improvements' on the i760, and there have been rumors (!) that GIN is/was the culprit. I don't claim to know why they might have encountered problems; I am only suggesting that they might have. After all: the phone apparently worked pretty well during user testing, before the modding began, at least according to the limited reports that I have access to.

I didn't realize that I was expressing a 'conspiracy theory', nor that I was interested in attracting a following. All I thought I was doing was expressing an opinion... just like you!
Damn Kupe, I remember the i630! I was actually holding out for that phone way back when. I remember the excuse they gave for canceling it: VZW is heading toward an all Querty interface for it's smartphones. Then the PN820 was released. (wretch)
I'd like to think that $519 is a very realistic price. I can't imagine them being able to deploy this to businesses for employee plans if it were any more money, but any less you'd almost be giving it away. Discounts aside, it appears to be a powerful device, I hope the features are not crippled by VZW, and this could be a good PDA/Phone. I personally have called my local stores here in TN, and they have no idea what I'm talking about when I ask them about this phone. Not like they are keeping a secret, but more like they have no idea that this device exists. Has this been the experience of everyone else, aside from those with "insider information" or "a friend of a friend"?

That has NOT been my experience. I've talked to managers & reps at a few stores in Boise, ID that have acknowledged the phone and have seen a "live" version of it. They just haven't been able to give me a release date.
And so then that is to say that some stores already have this phone in inventory, awaiting the ok to start selling it? That would be fantastic because I was counting on the sept 10th release, but my next question is this: Once the units have shipped to stores, can they continue to update or upgrade the units, or would this mean that they have all the bugs worked out?
My next question is more about mobile IE. Some of the industry websites I use require IE 6 or better. And they don't play, no Netscape, Opera, Firefox, Safari, nothing. Now, it could change the way I do business if Mobile IE could pull the sites for me, and I understand that it now have javasupport and some other new features. Any idea on if Mobile IE would work for sites such as this, and if not, is there a hack to get around it? Maybe trick the browser check?

Just an update for people out there. I am out in Denver Colorado for the CEDIA expo. I stopped into the VZW store and they have a dummy version of the phone. If anyone lives in the area they can check it out. The guy that showed it to me said a month but he did not seem that informed.
