Ok, I'll start a new rumor. I think Verizon and Steve Jobs have something going. Sure... they "turned down" the iphone, but haven't retaliated with ANYTHING. Verizon could have stolen SO much business from Apple and AT&T, but they are just letting them run free. Now Apple dropped the iphone by $200. Verizon's answer? Absolutely nothing. Anybody else find this a bit more than suspicious?

"Verizon doesn't like to be the 1st if they can wait and be the best".

HAH! That's funny. Kinda' like IBM's attitude in the 80s and 90s. That didn't work out so well for them! Guess it will take Verizon a 4 billion dollar, single-year loss just like IBM to realize that they can't just go "you will take what we offer because we're Verizon". I know a LOT of folks are hopping to competing carriers due to Verizon's utter lack of ingenuity. I'm forced to stay with Verizon in my area, but if I were in an equal coverage area, I would certainly seriously consider switching.
But do we have an answer as to if this new information page from Verizon is an indicator for a launch date? Do we think that they have educated a nationwide network of retail chains on this product all day monday for a launch this week, or is this the equivilant of everything else they have done to this point, i.e. jerking us around. They are sitting on they're hands while similar devices are rapidly approaching the marketplace. Are they delaying a launch as to not steal from the RAZR 2's thunder? Or is this device simply not ready for end consumers?

What did Verizon do in preping for the Moto Q9M? Seems like nothing. Why would they do anything different with the Samsung i760? I'll tell you 1 thing, I'm ready to get that phone.
You read my mind. But hey, I'm in no position to judge, or be picky on where I'm getting my info. I'm still at loss that no Verizon employee's have any idea what this product is. How are they expected to sell this device? "Uh, well, see it say's Samsung here, and Verizon over there. Would you like a leather holster or car charger with that?" This isn't exactly a Big Mac that are putting into the marketplace. I'm in car sales, and one thing in my industry in certain: Know your product. Know it before it comes out. Know more than the public. This device not only launches a new product, but also a new OS, and if I understand correctly, the first in their lineup to run WM6 with touchscreen support. This all leads me to think the launch is later rather than sooner. Just from a business stand point, they can't leave their entire sales force in the dark until the day of the launch, and on the other end, and I think Ben Franklin put it best " A secret kept between three people only works if two of them are dead." Verizon didn't get where they are by being that stupid. All this being said, I hope I am proved wrong by a 9/11 launch, which incidentally makes me the fool.
For what it's worth my B2B rep just sent me an e-mail today claiming that the i760 and xv6800 are now OCT or NOV releases. He's obviously guessing based on info that he gets. Take this with a grain of salt but he should know what's going on, as he usually checks in with the data team for me...

I am by no means all that knowledgeable about how phones are released but I think it is usually released to B2B 2 weeks in advance so that would give the regular employees 2 weeks to learn about the device.

But I don't think anyone else has made an answer to the iPhone in the US, right?
I still get a chuckle from people who think that there has to be an "answer" to the iphone... The iphone is not revolutionary, and it doesn't corner the market on any newly discovered consumer base.

I think that the way it needs to be worded is that no other carrier provides an Iphone like option (good or bad). I am not saying they need to or that the Iphone is the end all be all but it is unique.
Does anyone know if there is a manual availble yet for the 6800 similar to the one VZW E posted for the I760?

The iPhone functionality isn't revolutionary, in fact its down right pathetic in places. However the iPhone interface is revolutionary, and does corner the market and is finding a broader and previously untapped marketplace than the typical "smart phone."
However I don't think anyone thought the i760 was supposed to be Verizons iPhone? did they? I mean they are Apples and Oranges...
Verizon will have an iPhone-ish device I'm sure, but it will probably be the LG Prada or the new Nokia, it most likely won't be a Windows Mobile device.
And knowing Verizon we'll see it oh around 2009 :P
