Office 2007 formats not compatible with Mobile Office

    Specifically:

I copied over an excel spreadsheet and it isn't visable to be opened if you open excel first and then try to open a document. If you try to open it via file browser it says "There is no application associated with "Book1". Run the application first and then open this file inside the application".

I know I can save the file to Excel 97-2003 workbook, but you would think that if MS wanted people to use their software that they would make all their new programs cabable of using the new formats.

    Any ideas?

You've already given yourself an idea. Save as 97-03.

Yeah, I agree this sucks. But what can you expect from Microsoft? Nothing's as perfect as it should be.

Of course that is an option. Why not save it to a CSV file? That will work? Right?

You would prefer that they delay the OS when there is a simple workaround? This is the exact reason that AKU's are made.

If you are developing two products from the same company on roughly the same time release schedule, you would think that someone, maybe would make sure that the products were compatible or at least work together a little better...

What makes you think that the ROM you are using was on the same release schedule as Office 2K7? Microsoft releases dozens of AKUs every year, whereas Office is released only once every couple of years. By the time the carriers and manufacturers make these updates available to the public it has been months since they were actually released. The fact that it doesn't work with the ROM you are using on the device you are using actually has no bearing on compatibility with future devices and future ROMS.

Well office 2007 has been out since last year, at least for corporate customer and certainly for MS internal developers. If roms/aku's are release all the time, then the process of making sure everything worked wouldn't be that much work to make sure it was right. And if they release dozens of akus ever year that would be a monthly schedule, or something close to that. If that is the case, anything from previous to one month ago should be included. No?

We could argue about this all day or until someone gives us hugs at the finish line, but the simple fact of the matter is that MS should have better quality control. The same can be said for t-mobile and all the issues that have surfaced.

I am not a multi-billion dollar corporation. They pay people to check for stuff like this, or they should.

And I guess you never complained about a product ever...

I think the new version of office in wm6 will read office 2007 files. I can check when I get home though.

If I remember correctly WM6 doesn't read Office 2007 file formats. I also agree that this is a sign of poor Quality Control on MSs part...

One of their biggest marketing lines for Windows Mobile is its compatibility with Office. They worked hard to sync Windows Mobile 6's feature set with that of Exchange 2007 and the same should have been done with Office 2007. But, typical MS for them to miss the ball on making a great product. They always seem to just make the OK or Good bar...
