    Hey guys, I've been having a technical issue with my Dash and was wondering if anyone knew whats going on. So when I shut my phone down and start it back up the white tmobile screen with the dots comes up and then the WM6 green screen comes up and then it will shut itself down. Eventually after repeats this process a few times of partially starting up and shutting down after the WM6 screen it will start up if at all. I was wondering that first off if this makes any sense, then secondly if anyone knows whats going on and how to fix it. Thanks so much guys, I've been loving this site and been obsessed in the background with all the tweaks. you guys are awesome.

    take your memory card out. for some reason it goes through an endless rebooting while the memory card is in the phone. Once you get to the homescreen, put the card back in and it should be fine. This is the only thing I can think of right now that has been discussed before.

    Hello all, I'm new to the smartphone scene and got a Tmobile Dash most recently. I am not new in regards to modding as I modded the crap out of my old V3c CDMA razr. (motomodders, modmymoto, zedge, maxedmobiles) Yes I made the switch to GSM. If I know one thing it's backing up your phone before you start modding anything. I understand one must do a lot of registry changes. How or what software can I use to backup my registry? Like I said I am new to GSM and from my understanding it is much easier than most CDMA phone interfaces.

    I somewhat understand what I need to do. I guess since I haven't even transfered my contacts over yet I would like to get started.

    I just noticed something odd for about 1/2 of the apps I install. Even though I chose to install onto the storage card, the app actually is installed into the Program Files folder of the device.

    Why isn't it doing what I asked it to do and/or why give me the choice if the app can't be installed to the storage card?

    If you are using it on the Dash select the \\Plugins folder on the first screen and then the registry folder. You should now be in the registry. Most changes are done in the HKLM "folder."

    I like using Mobile Registry Editor (available here) to do my hacking. You run it on your computer while your Dash is connected via ActiveSync. I find it easier to navigate that way.

    I use sprite backup. It works like norton ghost does in a pc. It makes an image of the current config and saves it as an executable. So what I did was make a back up of the system when I got it. Then I flashed the newest htc rom and did all the registry hacks. Once the system was stable with the software I wanted installed I made an image of that. Now I can screw around all I want and if I mess anything up I just run the recovery executable and in 2 minutes Im back to the stable config. Awesome software. This will also back up the registry settings.

    I just recieved a new Dash after my old one had a crack in the screen. It seems like there has been some updates, such as Texting. I like the old format better, and was quicker to send out text messages. The new format, you have to go through two extra steps to text. Is there a way to change it back to the old format?

    Settings Lost After Soft Reset

    I have this same problem too. After reading all 15 pages, I could not find a solution. It's annoying to have to switch back to the cool home made homescreens after every soft reset!

    In addition to this, my custom ring tones for specific contacts are also lost after soft reset, and all contacts revert to the default ringtone selected.

    For example: I was able to load my own ringtones into the phone, no problem, but have specific ringtones for certain contacts in my address book: my boss rings to the "Imperial Death March," so that I can sense the impending doom of our conversation before I pick up the call.

    But alas, this cool custom ringer is lost after a soft reset. =(

    I've loaded all my ringtones in the following folder: "Device/Application Data/Sounds" And the tones I've selected for "default ringer" and "incoming txt msg," etc. all stick after the soft reset. The only ringer settings I lose after the reset are the ringers attached to specific selected contacts. (They're still in the phone, I just have to re-assign the ringers to the contacts every time I re-boot.)

    Anyone out there have any suggestions that make the custom home screens and contact specific ringtones STICK after soft resets? Thx!

    I did some more digging in other forums and came upon the fix in the link below. I soft resetted twice and looks like the fix is legit.

    strange, I used total commander and simply changed

    HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Callstart\InCall 2 <-- empty field and type 0 (zero).

    and that worked for me after reboot.

    here is what I have in my phone:

    HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\CallStart\InitVo l--->0

    HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall\InitVol--->3

    HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall2\InitVol--->0

    hope that helps, an alternative to running a ''blank'' sound effect

    p.s. im running WM6
    Just incase anyone else was having issues with this and didn't want to make a new callstart.wav, you do need to change the profile and then reedit the registry settings. I did this on my 'normal' profile and it worked through multiple reboots, changed to 'vibrate' and it started beeping again. I went through the registry and reset the values to those listed above and it now works properly in both normal and vibrate modes through multiple reboots.

    Thanks for the tip Surfman!

    hey all,
    I was wondering if anyone knew a way to have a TomTom One sync up with my dash. I've research a bit and found that there is a SPP that is needed for this to work. I think that the dash has this and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to tweak the phone to sync via bluetooth or if there was any other options. Thanks
