Question GSM coverage/quality outside the GTA

    Hi:

I wondered about how GSM coverage was outside the GTA. I currently have a Roger's 'Pay-As-You-Go' phone (Erricson A1228d) and it works good in areas I've travelled around Ontario as it's a TDMA/analog type phone (I primarily drive to the Hamilton/Stoney Creek area and the Barrie/Orillia area). I was thinking of going to the 'Canadian One Rate' plan as I don't need a whole lot of minutes but I do make long distance calls and I have been going thru more pre-paid cards lately especially since Roger's increased their long-distance rates from 33 cents to 58 cents per minute (not to mention per minute charges as opposed to per second with a plan). The Motorola V60g seems to be a good phone as I have always wanted a more compact 'clam-shell' type in comparison to my Erricson but it's only available as a GSM model.
Any comments/opionions/help with regards to GSM would be greatly appreciated as I haven't signed up for anything yet and don't want to regret anything!

    Thanx!

    Paulsey

Rogers is still billed per minute when you get a new plan.

Fido prepaid. You may be able to pick up some prepaid sim and a cheap 5190 here and try it out.

If you are thinking about switching to GSM... make sure it is a dual band phone (850/1900)... 850 is up and running east of Grimsby... Hamilton is not complete yet... but there are four sites planned to be built this year that will improve the current coverage. Parts of Barrie and Orillia also have 850. If you like the clam-shell type... then check out the Motorola T720.
